Dailos - 19 Jan 2010 19:30 - 8713 of 11003

my icons that are normally at the bottom of the screen have gone to a right hand side margin, if i click anywhere in that margin, my screensaver goes green with a black spyware warning sign in the middle of it!!!!!

Haystack - 19 Jan 2010 20:47 - 8714 of 11003

Do you have anti virus software running on your PC?

You might try running a virus scan using your anti virus software or using

Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware to find and remove it

www.malwarebytes.org

As a general rule don't open attachments on emails that you don't recognise or even better don't open the email at all.

That virus should not have infected your PC if you are running anti virus software. I am currently using Microsoft's Security Essentials

Sounds like you need to download a Trend Micro Housecall

They say: "Scan now with HouseCall 7.1!"

HouseCall is Trend Micros highly popular and capable on-demand scanner for identifying and removing viruses, Trojans, worms, unwanted browser plugins, and other malware.

Getting Started with HouseCall

Click Download HouseCall 7.1 to begin. Please note that HouseCall requires a small download before it can scan your computer.
You can also choose to save a copy of the launcher (HousecallLauncher.exe) and use it to quickly launch HouseCall. Remember to visit this page occasionally to get the latest copy of the launcher.
It is recommended that first-time users select the Quick Scan option, which is available in addition to the Full Scan or Folder Scan options.

Blimey, Doc.

With all the anti-virus/spyware/malware/speed-boosting/performance-enhancing/steroidal goodies that you seem to have on your PC, is there any room left to run the proper programs of this world like Barbie Riding ClubTM.

:o)

Dailos - 20 Jan 2010 08:12 - 8717 of 11003

Haystack/Doc

Thanks, ive run them, they say thy have found Trojans and have removered them.
A new icon called internet security keeps appearing though, they clear it and it comes back to say the lap tops got severe infections and i need to purchase things to get rid of them. Is it possible these signs are fake? How to i get rid of them?
I licked the icon and pressed delete but t said i had t go to add/remove progs to delete it, i did but i couldnt find it in there!

Dailos - 20 Jan 2010 08:13 - 8718 of 11003

Yes H, i know "licking" the icons isnt a good idea!

:-)

Hils

According to my contact at http://www.softsift.com/ well, how shall I say it? Barbie Riding Clubâ„¢ might just now be so 'last year'.

:-)

Dailos

Go into the PC in Safe Mode. (Press F8 when the machine is booting up)
You will get a few options.
Choose Safe Mode with Networking.
Download and install Super AntiSpyware Free Edition from http://www.superantispyware.com/.
Try using the code 'FRIEND' to get yourself a discount.
It shouldn't be necessary to update it, if you download it from this web site.
Run a full scan.
Reboot into Normal mode.
Should be sorted.

Finally, I would suggest you strongly consider uing this program (the 'Pro' version) as your main AV software and set it up to run in the background to give you protection from web site nasties when you are browsing and e-mail nasties too, as and when they come in.
SAS updates several times per week and is very, very, up to date. It's also not too sexpensive. One of the best on the market IMHO.

Good Luck! Nothing is impossible.

Think Retro, Doc.

:o)

Dailos - 20 Jan 2010 10:59 - 8722 of 11003

Cheers Doc, its sorted!
Keep an eye on AVN (long).

Hi
I've just added Windows 7 to an HD with xp installed (dual booting). Is it possible to add shortcuts in 7 to the apps I have in running xp or do I need to reinstall them?
tia

Optimist - 23 Jan 2010 22:32 - 8724 of 11003

You will have to reinstall all of your programs on the Win 7 system.

Assuming that you are using Windows 7 Profesional or better and if your machine will support it then you could use the Win 7 XP mode. This will run a virtual XP machine within Windows 7, eliminating the need to dual boot but you will still have to instal the programs.

iiwarm - 23 Jan 2010 22:56 - 8725 of 11003

thanks a lot

If there is anyone around here who suffers from a confusing surfeit of icons on their desktop I offer the suggestion of Wintidy.

With it I have been able to group my icons into task types and the software will keep them in the same place through reboots, plague and locusts. Not sure about rape and pillage, but it's a bit thin on the ground with all this cold in Fulham!

HARRYCAT - 27 Jan 2010 12:49 - 8727 of 11003

Just a general question really, as not directly related to PC, but have just got my first touch phone with web browser. Should I have an anti-virus program on it or does the mobile operator (Orange) run its own a/virus?

Optimist - 27 Jan 2010 14:00 - 8728 of 11003

Harry

You are unlikely to get any AV protection from your phone operator.

AV programs are required for phone browsers, but so far, the threat is not as great as with a PC. Only you can decide whether to take the risk or install AV and slow your phone down.

HARRYCAT - 27 Jan 2010 14:28 - 8729 of 11003

Trouble is that I hook my mobile phone up to my laptop via USB cable, so presumably any virus is easily transferrable between the two?
EDIT: Having done a bit more research on this subject, it looks very complicated. Phones running JAVA software appear to be immune to virus attack. My phone ia a Motorola DEXT running Android 1.5 (Cupcake)[Linux kernel 2.6.27] software. I am non the wiser!

breydon - 27 Jan 2010 15:39 - 8730 of 11003

I have a BIZZIN GAMESHOW COSOLE UK411
MOUSE REMOTE X10 MODEL JR20E

IT IS FOR A PUB BINGO GAME

Have lost the code book
how can i get the code to start this

Seymour Clearly - 27 Jan 2010 17:25 - 8731 of 11003

breydon, why don't you email the manufacturers of the console and explain your predicament, that's far more likely to bring success than any advice on here.

By the way, your description of what your problem is a puzzle for me, as it is a bit vague, random, and far too short. May I kindly suggest you think about what your reader is going to see, and try to help us help you better.
