Anyone on here tried KeePass, which is a Free program and a secure way to keep and remember all your usernames and passwords?
The program stores your passwords on your machine in a highly encrypted database. This database consists of only one file, so it can be easily transferred from one computer to another. The program also has a strong random password generator, within which you can define the possible output characters, length, generation rules, etc.
You can drag&drop passwords into other windows. Alternatively, there is a powerful auto-type feature, which will type user names and passwords for you into other windows.
http://keepass.info/help/base/index.html
If so, do you like it and can you recommend it?
If not, what else can you recommend?

Need some help with a Firefox problem please:
Just rebooted by pc and although everything is working as it should do i am having aproblem with loosing all my bookmarks and history functions it appears that i have lost all my sites that i have bookmarked and i am getting a message at the top just under the toolbar with this comment.
The bookmark and history system will not be functional because because of one of Firefox's files is in use by another application.
The pc is running xp pro and nothing has been changed or altered all that has happened is it was powered down and then rebooted,i could add all the bookmarks again but it would take a long time.
Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions on this one please.

I think you might mean your 'browser' has lost its 'Favorites' and also 'History' data.
It seems to me your OS (operating system) is Windows XP Pro and you use Firefox as a browser sometimes and also IE8 as a browser sometimes?
The topic solutions required are to do with Importing/Exporting browser Favorites from the one type of browser to the other:
Here's a reasonably good link, which explains what is involved:
http://forums.techarena.in/windows-xp-support/1207230.htm
Sometimes one browser's History will be retained when you swap onto another browser. Eg, The Google Chrome browser retains IE8's browsing History when you do that swap. However, this is not always the case. I guess there is a table somewhere that shows what does do this and what doesn't do this?
I see on the link there is also a mention about importing Favorites onto/into an iPhone.
I personally also like to surf using History. I think some web site owners don't appreciate this and in an insular way, expect everyone to start at the web site's Home page and use links off it. Not for me, I'm afraid.
Hope that helps.

EL,i only use FF and rarely use IE only to check a few sites that they view ok in both browsers and no i have never done a export to IE as far as i am aware they are still in a file located in FF but i cannot find the location to reinstall them again, why it all of a sudden has gone wrong i am not sure as far as i can see no update has happened and this is the 1st time it has happened.
After i get them back that is if i can i will then add them to IE8 so it does not happen again.
Any other thoughts on this one folks ???

MB,
I have just migrated my Firefox and Thunderbird (test) systems from the Portable version to the properly installed system. I had a problem getting the 'proper' Thunderbird to pick up the rather complicated account settings from the Portable version.
All of which is leading up to saying that the Mozilla fora (see I did Latin) are quick off the mark for a source of help. I'm sure they'll have come across your problem before.
Once you get sorted out you might install Mozbackup which protects you against the problem happening again. I have just put both progs on a new laptop I bought Mrs TP for Christmas. I'm going to get her to dump her files to a memory stick using that backup jobbie.

TP thanks for the advice it looks as though i will have to delete FF and do a reinstall of it again and hope that cures the problem as i cannot save any any sites so 'Houston' we do a small problem.
I will delete it then i think i have all my sites stored on a backup so i will keep you posted.

Well i have just deleted FF and re-installed it again and still the bloody same problem everything work fine apart from the bookmark problem so it looks like i will have to go through and work out which file/s are corrupt.

I picked this up from a photographer web site. Has anyone tried it?
"Enable view of complete header first.
Forward SPAM to spam@uce.gov
It works.
If a lot people complain spammers get charge $500.
I reported over 100 so far and many of them (over 20) made on the National List. I actually got email from one of them apologizing and telling me that they will remove my address from their server and they did. That was after I reported them to email address above. So it works."

E,
I simply did a cut and paste of the original msg - and cut some of the confusion. But not enough !!
I think that all the guy was saying was to get enough of the message to enable the Forward facility on the email system you use.

He is saying to include the message headers in the email forwarded, i.e. this sort of stuff, which enables the source of the message to be traced:

The only problem being of course that most people don't know how to do that :-) A simple forward is not enough since it sends on only the email address, which can very easily be forged, and normally is.

Hmmm?
Very confusing. Not sure what you guys are on about really. I like "Do 1.,2.,3., etc" type stuff. Anyway.....
I'll tell you what I can do:
1. Right click on the e-mail.
2. Left click on the informative window that pops up to find the e-mail's 'Properties'.
3. Copy and Paste them onto the top of a 'Reply' e-mail leaving the body of the original e-mail as it was.
4. Send that to spam@uce.gov, also leaving the original e-mail Subject: as it was.
The Definition of an 'e-mail Header' is as follows:
The section of an email message that contains the sender and recipient's email addresses as well as the routing information.
Here is a site, which tells you how to obtain the 'e-mail Header' for most of the popular e-mail software programs. It also includes the popular web based e-mail programs too.:
http://www.spamcop.net/fom-serve/cache/19.html
I also found these two sites. They both give full instructions on what to do:
http://www.ftc.gov/spam/
http://www.spamcop.net/

I understand (now) about the significance of including the full original header.
Maybe it is explained in the FTC site, but I don't see it.
Whatever, it does make the forwarding much more time consuming.
I still use Compuserve (now AOL) as my main email ISP and they have a Report Spam facility in their online reader. I've taken to using that as it just needs a mouse click and none of this copy and paste routine.
My wife also has a compuserve.com mailbox and it is interesting how the volume of spam goes in waves - some days virtually none and some days quite a lot.
