How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

Steve

I assume your trade worked out in the end. Well done.

I climbed on board SL at 1.10. Sweated a bit when it drifted out to 1.17 and almost cut the trade. Then came the 9th wicket :-)

Yes bak

got out with a small profit so happy

Scripophilist - 10 Feb 2006 11:32 - 8746 of 10502

Bangor looks on, though may suffer a lot of rule 4's today?!?

Denman has been matched at 1.01 already in the 15:35 thanks to a big rule four this morning. Currently priced at 1.15

Scripophilist - 10 Feb 2006 11:35 - 8747 of 10502

Held over till noon now. I wish they would make their mind up!

Fundamentalist - 10 Feb 2006 11:38 - 8748 of 10502

Be some people sweating scrip

have a look at the 15.35 and the perils of R4 deductions

Someone backed denman at approx 1.5, then Black Jack Ketchum was withdrawn which after the reduction factor means the bet on denman is now at 1.01 lol.

Its at 1.12 currently

Otis B DRIFTwood living upto its name in the 2.20

schiff - 10 Feb 2006 14:31 - 8750 of 10502

Been great to have laid Denman before BJK's exit!

Fundamentalist - 10 Feb 2006 14:34 - 8751 of 10502

Indeed schiff

there again, to be honest, if 1.1 can ever be considered value i would guess this is today. On form it could hit every hurdle and still beat the rest of these and will win as it likes

schiff - 10 Feb 2006 14:40 - 8752 of 10502

Agreed, but greening up would have been a cinch.

Haile Selassie has just won the 2.30. I am convinced, as its rider went past the others, he called out A bi sin ya.

could have 100s about the great athlete

African Nations final kicks off at 4pm, is live on Eurosport. Egypt look a big price at 2.4 for me (especially without the showpony Mido) though planning to watch the first 10 mins before getting involved

Fundamentalist - 10 Feb 2006 15:41 - 8755 of 10502

not too many worries for Denman backers

bakko - 10 Feb 2006 15:48 - 8756 of 10502

Very tempted to back Denman but bottled out in the end as over sticks.

An amazing 1.7m matched on that race!

Fundamentalist - 10 Feb 2006 15:58 - 8757 of 10502

Bak

it was only over very soft Hurdles

Egypt on the drift pre kick off

bakko - 10 Feb 2006 16:55 - 8758 of 10502

Always thought that a hurdle was just a hurdle. OK, there are grand national hurdles but they're a different species altogether!

Just shows how much I know about horse racing!

Fundamentalist - 10 Feb 2006 17:05 - 8759 of 10502

Bak

most racecourses have 2 separate courses - a hurdles course and a chase course.

The chase course has big fences, ditches and water jumps, like the national though not as big. The hurdles course has thin hurdles which effectively fall down when hit and at worst cause a loss of balance. also they are only about 2.5 ft high compared to the chase fences which can be 6 ft high and also several feet wide

schiff - 10 Feb 2006 17:15 - 8760 of 10502

I've had a small problem with my basic betangel this afternoon. The green 'In-play' banner has been in the middle of the screen instead of at the top, and it has obscured the Back odds of the 4th horse down.

Is this for Scrip please?

Fundamentalist - 10 Feb 2006 17:17 - 8761 of 10502

drop an email to scrip at optic

bakko - 10 Feb 2006 17:24 - 8762 of 10502

Steve...Thanks for the info on hurdles. Much appreciated.

Fundamentalist - 10 Feb 2006 17:28 - 8763 of 10502

no probs Bak

i think there is a need for us to have a day at Haydock for a full education :-) im sure john would be up for it
