FTSE + FTSE 250 - consider trading (FTSE)

cynic - 20 Oct 2007 12:12

rather than pick out individual stocks to trade, it can often be worthwhile to trade the indices themselves, especially in times of high volatility.

for those so inclined, i attach below charts for FTSE and FTSE 250, though one might equally be tempted to trade Dow or S&P, which is significantly broader in its coverage, or even NASDAQ

for ease of reading, i have attached 1 year and 3 month charts in each instance

GBP Construction PMI 49.0 consensus 50.1 previous 50.9

skinny - 04 Sep 2012 15:00 - 8787 of 21973

USD ISM Manufacturing PMI 49.6 consensus 50.0 previous 49.8

Above 50 signifies industry expansion, below indicates contraction.

just to keep things under control, sold 1/3 AAPL and GOOG for a tasty profit + all AMZN for a modest one

HARRYCAT - 04 Sep 2012 16:28 - 8790 of 21973

Have you ever traded ebay, cynic? Seems to be doing quite well and owns PayPal which seems to be a real money spinner for them.

cynic - 04 Sep 2012 16:43 - 8791 of 21973

One of those 'if only' stocks! I recently completed my W8-BEN form so am ready to start looking at U.S. stocks. It's gonna take some serious research by the look of it! At least I recognise most of the UK company names!!!

Toya - 04 Sep 2012 19:39 - 8794 of 21973

Wow - what a lovely bounce! Have been long DOW from 13006

Apparently it's rebounding on the back of AAPL cynic - no doubt you're raking in some more!

chuckles - 04 Sep 2012 21:11 - 8795 of 21973

On the 20 June I posted £/$ still had 400 pts to go up. At the time it was at 1.5635.

As long as you use massive stops that position would now be in 240 pts in credit.

By massive I'm estimating 240 pts

easy this trading lark!

cynic - 04 Sep 2012 22:04 - 8796 of 21973

i still hold some AAPL and also added further dow long at 13002 ..... former well in the money of course, but the latter still has ground to make up (of course!)

skinny - 05 Sep 2012 08:04 - 8798 of 21973

That's the way to do it Chris - while you sleep and then play golf to unwind :-)

Tough at the top skinny:O)
(How would I know, started at the bottom and liked it!)

HARRYCAT - 05 Sep 2012 08:20 - 8800 of 21973

Totally off topic, but had to laugh at this. Even the Sheiks are having to pawn their posessions!

"Cash Converters opens Dubai store"

cynic - 05 Sep 2012 08:27 - 8801 of 21973

thanks for that snippet .... i'll be in dubai next week, and given that the locals won't touch anything second-hand - hence no re-sale market to locals even of property - there could be some bargains to be had there .... watches with second hand - groan groan, groan .... lots of jeux de mots possible here, some less tasteful than others!!

cynic - 05 Sep 2012 08:35 - 8802 of 21973

a sign of the economy there - CC's store is based in a heavy ex-pat enclave
