rather than pick out individual stocks to trade, it can often be worthwhile to trade the indices themselves, especially in times of high volatility.
for those so inclined, i attach below charts for FTSE and FTSE 250, though one might equally be tempted to trade Dow or S&P, which is significantly broader in its coverage, or even NASDAQ
for ease of reading, i have attached 1 year and 3 month charts in each instance

Have you ever traded ebay, cynic? Seems to be doing quite well and owns PayPal which seems to be a real money spinner for them.

One of those 'if only' stocks! I recently completed my W8-BEN form so am ready to start looking at U.S. stocks. It's gonna take some serious research by the look of it! At least I recognise most of the UK company names!!!

On the 20 June I posted £/$ still had 400 pts to go up. At the time it was at 1.5635.
As long as you use massive stops that position would now be in 240 pts in credit.
By massive I'm estimating 240 pts
easy this trading lark!

thanks for that snippet .... i'll be in dubai next week, and given that the locals won't touch anything second-hand - hence no re-sale market to locals even of property - there could be some bargains to be had there .... watches with second hand - groan groan, groan .... lots of jeux de mots possible here, some less tasteful than others!!

Japan stresses cost of ending nuclear power as decision looms
TOKYO | Wed Sep 5, 2012 11:13am BST
(Reuters) - Japan's government, buffeted by conflicting pressure from anti-nuclear voters and pro-nuclear business interests, is stressing the negative impact of a speedy exit from atomic energy as it nears a decision on a new energy mix.
Japan is rethinking its whole energy policy after an earthquake and tsunami damaged the Fukushima nuclear power plant in March last year, triggering the world's worst nuclear crisis in 25 years.
