K,

Interesting how the map from Defraggler and Smart Defrag looks totally different.

And golly, my USB backup is a real mess. S D says it has six hours work there.

Thanks for your comments.

I don't mind setting a firewall up but NTL settings are another matter as NTL provide zero information. Did the Netgear units connect staight away to the NTL modem? Have you any idea what model you are using?

TP

I normally use the quickscan option which takes only a few minutes.

If you want a good defragmenter, buy Diskeeper which is availible on trial.

Crocodile any idea what is causing this.

Nov 2009 new Dell 64 bit desktop, 4 processor, 8 gig ram, Windows 7

With IE 8, Google Chrome, Firefox browsers Moneyam stockwatch appears very small with streaming on, without streaming appears OK. rest of the page OK, Opera Browser performs OK with stockwatch normal size.

Tried everything still the same problem.

ExecLine - 18 Feb 2010 10:25 - 8809 of 11003

IE8 has a 'Status Bar', which you can activate as follows:

Right click on a blank part of the Tool Bar at the top of the IE8 browser screen.

Up pops an information bar with various selections ticked.

The selection we are looking for is 'Status Bar'. Ensure it is ticked.

If you now go down to the bottom of the screen to the RHS you will see something like '+100%' with an additional selection arrow to the RHS of that. A click on it will allow you to zoom the screen graphics In and Out from 400% to 50% or even Custom as well.

You need to look for something similar with whatever other browser you choose.

You should also check to see that you have the correct and most uptodate JAVA installed. (See the link at the top of the Stockwatch screen)

PS. Welcome to MoneyAM. Very sadly and unfortunately, 'Crocodile' (David Andersen), the originator of this thread and lots, lots more besides, died in his sleep back in 2004. He was a friend to many on here and is still greatly missed. His memory lingers on when users take advantage of this greatly used thread.

Thank,s Execline but all that does is expand the money AM screen it does not alter the streaming prices watchlist part of the screen which stays the same very small.

Haystack - 18 Feb 2010 10:53 - 8811 of 11003

Have you tried Tools, Compaitbility View Settings in IE 8. Then tick 'Display all sites in compatibility view.

Clubman3509 - 18 Feb 2010 10:56 - 8812 of 11003

Yes tried that, also tried Windows 7 run previous versions of windows facility

Optimist - 18 Feb 2010 11:22 - 8813 of 11003

Are you uing a zoom factor other than 100%?

The Java applet may not be affected by the zoom setting.

Gausie - 18 Feb 2010 11:23 - 8814 of 11003

Clubman3509 - 18 Feb 2010 11:34 - 8817 of 11003

ExecLine - 18 Feb 2010 13:59 - 8818 of 11003

My research tells me this is most probably a Firefox problem. However, it can be rectified with an 'add-on' download.

Here's a link: Greasemonkey

About Greasemonkey:
Greasemonkey is a Firefox extension that allows you to customize the way webpages look and function.

ExecLine - 18 Feb 2010 14:04 - 8819 of 11003

Note: Part of my research on this involved placing an ice cube out on the back door mat and seeing how long it took to melt.

Since it had not fully dissolved at the time of my posting, my research may be incomplete.

Clubman3509 - 18 Feb 2010 14:14 - 8820 of 11003

Thank's but that download wont help with problem using IE8 which is my main browser.

I feel the problem is connected with Moneyam site / Windows 7 64bit / Java

ExecLine - 18 Feb 2010 14:35 - 8821 of 11003

I think you are possibly correct.

However, MightyMicro and his mates, the site's designers, do take a great pride in site design and on this type of thing and try to design problems like this out.

The fact that there is a download available to cater for it and the fact that there are other similar downloads which users can 'tweak' for themselves does illustrate the uniqueness and open architecture characteristics of Firefox as a browser. Perhaps because of this, you can't have everything?

Why don't you use another browser other than Firefox for Stockwatch?

Kayak - 18 Feb 2010 14:37 - 8822 of 11003

He does.

Clubman3509 - 18 Feb 2010 15:03 - 8823 of 11003

Firefox, IE8, Google Chrome all result in same problem, Opera is OK and displays stockwatch at the correct size, but I do not like Opera freeze and hang issues.

Seymour Clearly - 18 Feb 2010 15:09 - 8824 of 11003

Clubman, I had a similar problem with one PC. I found that streaming stockwatch gave be very tall characters. I resolved it by 'grabbing' a horizontal and pushing it up or down to resize the characters and hey presto, it all came out the right size. Only problem is that it reverts back to the original size, but I know how to resolve it now. I might try some of the suggestions we've had on here to see if I can fix it for good.

Opti - I haven't forgotten - will be on the case soon.
