How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

Anyone trading the horses - if so - was there a rule 4 on the 1.50 at Leopardstown? Thought i had lost 30 on the race but my account has given me a 132 profit - is this an error or have i just got very very lucky???

Fundamentalist - 12 Feb 2006 14:14 - 8834 of 10502

Bold Phoenix in the 2.20 is a Barney Curely horse

Scripophilist - 12 Feb 2006 14:15 - 8835 of 10502

Very lucky! I did some work on this sometime ago and constructed a spreadsheet to work out the impact of a rule four. Can go either way depending on the reduction factor.

What happened there - no strange betting patterns on barneys horse, ran a genuine race and just got touched off - very strange!!!

Afternoon All

Had a late night last night but set my alarm for the cricket this am only to find the Aussies scored 360+. So no chance of getting in on that and went straight back to bed!

Just seeing what's left at present?

Fundamentalist - 12 Feb 2006 15:29 - 8839 of 10502

Scotland down to 14 men in the rugby

schiff - 12 Feb 2006 15:39 - 8840 of 10502

Don't understand Timmy Murphy. With Racing Demon's inclination to jump right at his fences, why on earth didn't he pull RD more to the centre of his fences? Nearly cost him the race near the end.

Fundamentalist - 12 Feb 2006 15:48 - 8841 of 10502

Agree schiff, very strange ride, especially when you take into account Henrietta Knight pulled him out of a race recently when Murphy wasnt available

Jumping to the right doesnt bode well for Cheltenham either (assuming he turns up)
