Little Woman
Where you been then?

little willie - 21 Mar 2003 07:43 - 889 of 23498

Hils..re earlier thread...I know what I meant...!!
Public Holiday over here 'human rights day'...not sure if they have a 'human lefts day' or even a 'human ambidextrous day' ??
Any way its 9.34 here and about 30 degrees and rising, going to be a warm one, not a cloud in the sky and I'll be playing golf at midday [shades of Noel Coward come to mind].
Still I have our own motorised cart plus there are refreshment stops on the way round, egg banjoes but no snorkers and certainly no Glos black spots.
Then fly fishing later in nearby dam, catch a couple of trout hopefully and that'll be supper provided non gratis, wash it all sown with some very cold and fresh local sauvignon blanc, next doors a vineyard.

Life's a bitch huh! Could only be improved by anothe 2-3000 points on the ftse.

Pooch..keep your head down going over the top, remember Blackadder.

the question for this morning is when to bail out of AHT.

little woman - 21 Mar 2003 09:39 - 892 of 23498

Hi All,

Jeffmack - just returned from doing my bit for tourism in Egypt. Not many of us about, which is a shame, as Egypt has no crime (they still have the death penalty for what we consider minor things) and it's a long way from the Iraq and the Egyptians take the security of foreigners very seriously (biggest employment sector!) Everywhere I went, the tourist police outnumbered the tourists!

Nice to see you and Hilary doing better in the trading game. Sorry I've not been able to do my bit while I was away, but before I went away, I made sure I didn't do any worse. Now the struggle to regroup!

Little willie, - where are you at the moment? 3 hours ahead - perhaps Kuwait or Iraq? Should have logged on earlier as I've been awake since 5am. My body thinks it's 7am and I have to get to breakfast before the coach leaves before I get to take a look at a pile of impressive looking stones.......

little willie - 21 Mar 2003 12:18 - 893 of 23498

Hils..lucky my name wasn'tCrap eh! Hanging great but in need of a dip in the pool....*****SPLASH !!!!

Tim..stay in, more to come, imho..

LW..Don't expect too many in Iraq are dipping in the pool, no, now living full time in winelands of South Africa [Paarl]. Did Cairo and the Nile a few years ago very begrudgingly; yurned out the best and most interesting trip I'd ever done, I loved every minute except for the dreaded 'Gypie' tummy and paying 1 egyptian [20p] per 10 sheets of toilet paper to the man standing outside the lavatory door whilst I was inside suffering!! We had 3 days at the Cairo Intercontinental to do the Museum [fantastic] and the Pyramids plus Sphinx [also terrific]. We also flew to Abu Simbal from the Naswan Dam well worth doing. If you get the chance do go to the Son et Laumiere at both Karnak and the Pyramids, really eerie and spellbinding. Never quite got my head around it all, talk about thought provoking. Valley of the Kings, watch out for rip off boys and don't drink the water but have fun, see you for tea at the Luxor hotel where Agatha Christie wrote "Death on the Nile"......lw

little woman - 21 Mar 2003 13:41 - 894 of 23498

1 egyptian is currently about 11p, but as a person who always travels with my own supply of loo roll it wasn't a problem (& Dioralyte)! Did everything you recommended, except stayed on the East Bank at the Maadi Towers (view of the Giza Pyramids on a clear day while having breakfast)but was told by the few others who were there (and had been before) every time they visit, it changes. New discoveries, diffferent things open etc. etc. It was great to see all the "toutenkarmun" treasurers in the Cairo Museum and got very good at identifiying his cartouches!

So you keep in touch from SA, very nice. I thought it was 2 hours ahead, not 3? Only ever travelled through when my parents decided to live in Swaziland for a couple of years when I was a teenagager.

Well you'll be pleased to know that although it is unseasonably warm for the time of year, the weather today in sort of damp and grey!

Socrates - 21 Mar 2003 17:31 - 895 of 23498

Down here in darkest Cheltenham it has been a super bright and sunny day. I've just come in from the garden where I have been hoeing a couple of rows of old spot snorker bushes. I felt it was necessary to keep the strain alive in case lw ever comes over for a visit. He does love his snorkers!

I'd love to see the pyramids and the sphinx but I just loathe travelling. Do you think we could persuade the Egyptian government to bring them over for an exhibition sometime?

Where's Vasey, the bubbly is going flat?

little willie - 21 Mar 2003 17:49 - 896 of 23498

Socs dear boy, hello old chap.
Been doing a bit of missionary work, its a new position for me!
It might be worth you doing a bit in your neck of the woods, right load of heathens get in the Pittville Pump Rooms, Cavendish House and Queens Hotel. Remember Charles Irving, he was a bit of a lad in his heyday, long gone now I believe; did he hail from Charlton Kings?
Correct on the snorkers, keep the bushes well watered and don't forget the top dressing.
Bloody Biltong over here; I mean, who hangs perfectly good rib-eye on a bush in the sun and lets it dry out, bloody sacriledge that's what it is!
That King Tuts death mask is unbelievable, solid gold it hypnotises you, wow!

LW you are correct in saying its 2 hours ahead here, did I say otherwise? bloody computer error if I did!
Have a great w/end all....lw

Socrates - 23 Mar 2003 10:59 - 901 of 23498

Good morning all.

Jeffmack, Richmond! Very nice place. Good pizza parlours in Richmond.

8 ball
I'm here, a little late but better late than never, as the saying goes. Sorry but by 23.03 last night I was on the way to bedfordshire so didn't see your post. I'll have the trifle now as an appetiser before luncheon.

little woman - 24 Mar 2003 08:39 - 902 of 23498

Good Morning all,

GD - were are you? Is this a help your self Tea Room?

jeffmack - 24 Mar 2003 08:53 - 903 of 23498

Its all free today

little woman - 24 Mar 2003 09:03 - 904 of 23498

Free - bit dangerous, I could clean the place out, and leave nothing for anyone else

Just as well I'm not a pig, oik, oik

vasey - 24 Mar 2003 09:15 - 905 of 23498

No, you help yourself, little woman. This place is kept stocked by the fairies. Just don't eat all the hob nobs or dog biscuits. And, of course, leave a few cans of Boddingtons ....

Olddog - 24 Mar 2003 09:52 - 906 of 23498

Did I hear someone say 'free dog biscuits' ?

I'm back ( while stocks last )

My Paws are killing me after all the walking over the beautiful weekend

Any leftover trifle ? Its for soothing sore paws - and nice to lick off afterwards

Any views as to why the market is down what with the DJ storming up last Friday ?

Is there some news - I've been out of the loop - ( what a terrible expression )

little woman - 24 Mar 2003 10:12 - 907 of 23498

profit taking may have something to do with it!
