How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

Anyone on the cricket this am?

Pak were skittled out for only 161.

India haven't made a good start and are 6/1 with Tendulkar just gone but if they get a decent innings should be a stroll in the park.

I have a very far-fetched conspiracy theory that would make a very good Dick Francis plot-line.
How many times now have we seen horses coming to the final or near enough fence/hurdle and trying to pull up, shy away, run out, you name it.
Shining Strand did it this afternoon, Turpin Green several days ago and Trompette on Monday. There have been one or two others that I know of but can't now identify.
I think a person or persons, from a distance and out of sight, are aiming some sort of ray or impulse at these horses which causes them to behave in this panicky way.
If this is associated with movements on the exchanges in the latter stages of a race, then it is really suspicious. If and when the authorities start to look into this in a big way, just remember you heard it here first!

No one trading the footy today?

bakko - 18 Feb 2006 13:20 - 8889 of 10502

Hi John

No trading yet. Odds at start of Man U game too close to call. Just waiting and biding my time.

Harlosh - 18 Feb 2006 13:25 - 8890 of 10502

Hi Bak, I wasn't here for the start of the game so waiting for an opportunity. United not too hot I believe.

bakko - 18 Feb 2006 13:31 - 8891 of 10502

Yep, Man U playing awful. Scousers dominant in midfield.

I can't even recall Man U having a shot on goal. Lucky to be 1-0 down.

If Liv score another I'll be scalping them.

Smith suffers broken leg

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson confirmed Alan Smith broke his leg and dislocated an ankle towards the end of the 1-0 FA Cup defeat against Liverpool.

The England international came on as a substitute for Darren Fletcher with 15 minutes remaining of the fifth-round tie at Anfield. And, as he attempted to block John Arne Riise's shot following Dietmar Hamann's free-kick, his left leg crumpled underneath him.

Smith, whose hopes of a place in England's World Cup squad appear to be in jeopardy, needed oxygen as he was carried off on a stretcher, and Ferguson reported it was "one of the worst" injuries he had witnessed.

"He has broken his leg and dislocated the ankle joint," the United boss told MUTV.

"It is a bad one. He has gone to hospital, it looks very long term - it is one of the worst I have seen. I am sure he will be back."

It did look very nasty on TV.

Harlosh - 20 Feb 2006 08:23 - 8894 of 10502

Congratulations to Andy Murray for winning the SAP Open in San Jose. He beat Andy Roddick in the semi's and Leyton Hewitt in the final. Still 18 I think.

WOODIE - 20 Feb 2006 08:39 - 8895 of 10502

harlosh did not think he had it in him well done andy

Harlosh - 20 Feb 2006 08:43 - 8896 of 10502

Yes, he is certainly a dour Scot Woodie but a real tennis prospect for GB

B-P - 20 Feb 2006 11:06 - 8897 of 10502

harlosh,
Its great to see that you do not mind a dour scot coming down south of the border to show you how to play the game

Harlosh - 20 Feb 2006 11:20 - 8898 of 10502

B-P, with a surname of Macpherson and parents and family from the west coast of Scotland, I take a certain pride too. :-)

Hi all

been away for a few days and wasnt planning on trading today, though with 2 Barney Curley runners later on I may do an hour :-)

The two to keep an eye on are:

4.10 Bold Phoenix - blinkers back on, should be plenty good enough to win if it is wanted to!

4.45 Ndola - usually runs well after a break (when the price is bigger) - ran an absolute stinker last time having drifted like a barge beforehand

Be surprised if neither these are off today, and if the first one loses then expect more money to go onto the second one.

As always with Barneys horses, watch the market and wait for the big money to guide you

bakko - 20 Feb 2006 13:37 - 8900 of 10502

Thanks for the info on barney's nags. Will certainly watch out later.

Anyway, hope you had a decent time away.
