How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

Barneys horse - what a joy to trade - a lump on the way up then a lump more on the way down

Looking forward to Ndola :-)

Fundy can I be a bit naive - genuinely! Like Scrip the price movements on BP confused me completely, yet you profited. It went out from 10/3 to 11/2 then back in to 4/1 (we are talking SP here). I can't see how you played it from that. The first moves suggest a lay (to me) but then you can't cover yourself when it comes back in. I suppose once you see the move back from 11/2 to 5/1 and 9/2 you can dive in to back it, and then lay it on its way down to 4/1.
As I say, naive, but I am trying to understand more about the trading game.
Ndola I can follow - once the price starts to go for its walk, you lay it and collect. Done and dusted.

Yes, i laid Bold Phoenix then when the money started to come i covered my bet by backing it back and then backed it again. Once the price shortened again i laid it off again then greened up.

With barneys horses, invariably the first move is a false one - Bold Phoenix drifted before being backed, Ndola was backed from 8 to 6 then the dirft all the way to 11. They key is getting out before it turns too quickly

Thanks Fundy.

anyone trading the footie?

As a staunch Arsenal fan i cant lump on Madrid though wouldnt put others off doing so - Senderos in the Bernabau - could be painful, cant understand why Hleb ahead of Pires and Henry could be left alone with only Reyes for support

bakko - 21 Feb 2006 19:46 - 8913 of 10502

Hi Steve

I'd love Arsenal to get something out of this game but just can't see it. Will watch for first 10 mins but will probably lump on Real eventually

Fundamentalist - 21 Feb 2006 19:47 - 8914 of 10502

Oh so close to being one nil up

tempted to back overs if still 0-0 after 15 or 20 mins

Fundamentalist - 21 Feb 2006 19:51 - 8915 of 10502

Good start from Arsenal and looks a very open game im glad to say (was worried we would be too negative)

Fundamentalist - 21 Feb 2006 19:53 - 8916 of 10502

Another chance for Arsenal and Woodgate off injured after 8 mins - look at them odds change!!!

Fundamentalist - 21 Feb 2006 19:55 - 8917 of 10502

Henry should have scored

cant keep wasting chances this good

bakko - 21 Feb 2006 19:55 - 8918 of 10502

Should've layed off Real from the start!

Fundamentalist - 21 Feb 2006 19:55 - 8919 of 10502

Arsenal gone from 7.4 to 5.2

Fundamentalist - 21 Feb 2006 19:56 - 8920 of 10502

looking for overs to get to 2.5

Fundamentalist - 21 Feb 2006 20:00 - 8921 of 10502

3 good chances away to madrid in the first 10 mins - get a horrible feeling we could live to regret not taking them
