10 years of labour and this is what we have to show from a great nation that once rule the wold in principles
U.S. District Judge Emmet Sullivan said at a hearing on Tuesday that he was concerned about the proposed deal in which the London-based bank agreed to pay $298 million (191.5 million pounds) to resolve the charges over its dealings with Cuba, Iran, Libya, Sudan and Myanmar.
Barclays' extensive and long-standing relationships with not one, not two, but five nations under U.S. sanctions leads one to conclude that some entities will cut a deal with multiple devils if it makes them an extra buck.

mnamreh, I suspect TB wanted to be on the World-Stage having enjoyed such acclaim at home. This meant he needed to be "with" Bush who had his own objectives let's say. The UK still owed US a lot of money for WWII (loans) and this too may have been an issue.
....rant from here....
Let's face it Sadam should have been removed by an International (body?), because of his attack on the Kurds, laying waste etc as well as ongoing torture, folk disapearing etc. but there was little interest because it wasn't "in the West"
What was wrong, IMHO is that even with limited knowledge of the country, Britain was unable to secure any "end-game" so the population would be safe, etc.
TB's attempt at justification over WMD's and 45-minutes was silly to the point of stupidity; but his own Party was largely against another War,(remember the Croatia/Balkans?) costing lives - and money that could be better spent at home. I susperct it was this cost that largely drove Gorden Brown into his lunatic-phase.....
Whilst his Book donation is most welcome (for UK returning troops, etc), I don't think this jesture erases an unpleasant period that the World might have avoided.... and which continues until end Aug2010(DYOR), when US troop leave Afghanistans to their own (Civil War?).
The most recent bombing of recruits in the centre demonstrates the Country can't secure its own recruits properly.....fancy leaving them to crowd an area so easily bombed?.....any one of the recruits could have done it...they should have been in small groups according to region/village so likely they'd know each other.
Afghanistan needs many-times more than Book-royalties to fix; and US is soon walking away...er, it seems to me. A different social Rule applies to an oil leak that cost relatively fewer lives. I doubt many Americans are really happy with their Leaders, but as here there's little the individual can do.
+Lending (flooded) Parkistan some tough vehicles (from Afghanistan retreat) might be an International Aid jesture, FWIW... and something that might restore US actions in World eyes.
((I understand food/Aid can't get through due to lack of roads/bridges. ))
Pity the hovercraft is no longer made in Britain, eh? This would be the very terrain it's suited to. Still we'll be updating Trident before long, to keep our Admirals happy. Did Trident Mk1 fail to work, or have the CMOS batteries failed... just how many deliverable mega-tons does Britain need?

The Greek economy is being torn to shreds by the very thing meant to save it, austerity, according to Der Spiegel.
The list of awful associated with the fallout from the countrys austerity measures is daunting. Heres a quick rundown of how Greeces economy has been cannibalized, according to Der Spiegel:
Unemployment in the port city of Perama has reached a staggering 70%
A quarter of shops on the key Athens shopping street of Stadiou have for rent signs
17% of all shops in Athens have filed for bankruptcy
The unemployment rate looks set to rise to 14.3% in 2011
And, as Der Spiegel notes, a newspaper in the country is calling on the government to pray to Mary, the mother of Jesus, to save the countrys economy.
LETS not forget the great USA
The Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts reports that personal bankruptcy filings for the year ended June 30, 2010 surged to a five year high, hitting 1.57 million, a 20% increase from the prior year. Furthermore, in the period between April and June, there were 422,061 bankruptcy filings, a 9% increase from the 388,148 in the previous quarter, and up 11% from 381,073 a year earlier. As Reuters highlights, quarterly filings surpassed 400,000 for the first time since a record 667,431 bankruptcies were begun in the fourth quarter of 2005, when Congress overhauled federal bankruptcy laws and made it harder for people and businesses to file. Yet while that was an administrative adjustment to bankruptcy law, this time it is all organic, and an indication of the ongoing incapability of America's politicians to fix the economic collapse. Indicatively, Nevada had the highest rate of filings on a per capita basis in the last year, with 11.74 per 1,000 people, while Alaska had the fewest, with just 1.58 per 1,000. The states with the most bankruptcies were California (241,975), Florida (107,373), Illinois (80,801), Georgia (77,809), and Ohio (72,924). A full split of all bankruptcies by state and by filing type is presented below.

Once the British fleet reached the south atlantic it couldn't wait at sea for more negotiations.
The Belgrano was sailing away from the fleet , but the exocets could still be fired at our fleet, if we had lost a airgraft carrier 1,000 's would have been killed

I don't mind you making excuses for ALd.
St the least he does present one reason for the action which I can't remember being advanced before. Could have used that argument in court.
It seems a more sensible action than sailing home for cup of tea.
But it is the sort of thing which l like about politicians, and after all it is that it is other people's lives they sacrifice.
They were bloody Argies anyway!

In an effort to bolster market confidence, the central bank announced a return to crisis-era stimulus spending.
It said it would use proceeds from maturing bonds in its mortgage portfolio to buy more Treasury debt in a bid to bring down long-term interest rates.
