SCOTTY Group plc
SCOTTY Successfully Enters The Netherlands' Telehealth Market
SCOTTY Group plc ("SCOTTY" or "the Company") which designs and markets video
telecommunications equipment and technology, is pleased to announce that the
Company has received its first order in the Netherlands for SCOTTY's telehealth
equipment. The initial order is worth approximately Euro500,000.
The order is a result of a successful Dutch' government home care pilot project,
which commenced in 2003 to provide elderly people remote access from their homes
to healthcare workers. A client can simply push a button on their TV remote
control to create a live video connection to a nursing care centre. The client's
medical records appear on a nurse's screen at the online call centre and the
nurse's face and name are displayed on the client's TV. The nurse/carer can
then determine whether to provide treatment advice to the client or send a
healthcare worker to the client's home, thus reducing the number of home visits
needed and the associated costs incurred. The project is sponsored by the Dutch
government with funding and management supplied by a consortium of healthcare
providers.
The order includes videoconferencing systems and call centre technology,
comprising of hardware and software, which has been specially adapted for the
project, based on the mm150 (IP). The first batch of videoconferenceing
hardware will be shipped in April 2005 and this initial order is worth
approximately Euro500,000. The pilot scheme is in its final phase; the consortium
expects to equip a larger quantity of homes across the Netherlands once the
trial comes to a successful conclusion. SCOTTY is currently in negotiations
with the consortium to become the preferred supplier for additional orders over
the next 18 months.
Kurt Kerschat, CEO of SCOTTY Group plc said: "As with many western countries,
the Netherlands' government expects the population in Holland over the age of 65
to increase by some 25% by 2020, resulting in a real need to reduce the cost of
care and the potential pressure on overall health services. SCOTTY's Telehealth
equipment enables the elderly to lead an independent life with the reassurance
that in the event of a medical emergency or accident they will be able to obtain
appropriate help. It can also result in significant cost savings for care
providers.
This contract is a key milestone in the Company's development of its Telehealth
business. The Netherlands is a new geographical area for our state-of-the-art
Telehealth product offering and we are hopeful that the continued relationship
with the consortium will further underline SCOTTY's position as one of the
leading suppliers to the Telehealth market in the Netherlands and worldwide."

What's the view on this company now? Results today don't seem to have been taken particularly well by the market! Is it a hold, sell or accumulate??

I don't hold but came across this thread today - I know they were taken over so "perhaps " none of the old company remains; - but this healthcare-telemonitoring is right up Motion Media's alley. There is nothing wrong with this technology and it should deliver good patient care. However, there is no real benefit IMHO to the (Dutch?)Health service, any reduced costs will treat "more patients" so the work-load and cost remains. If this technology made significant savings to cut the nation's taxes - that wold be a reason for further orders.....
Furthermore SCO is comming over as dependant on large (=infrequent) orders and if one is missed (eg the helicopter one, recently) that impacts on shareholder sentiment - because the Management has not built-up a regular business that covers overheads (What I call a bread-and-butter product).....then they can go chasing bigger fish......until then the sp will fluctuate on every titbit of news.
They can't create news and can only make announcenments that are material to Market needs......the trouble is that punters like to sleep soundly by having an underlying business earning profits each and every day. Does anyone know if they have such plans, or a dormant division, etc?
