Dowgate Capital - Capitalising on the booming AIM market (DGT)

overgrowth - 09 Feb 2005 20:52

Dowgate Capital (DGT) are sitting in the middle of a goldmine!

This company through their sole trading arm City Financial Associates are looking to take full advantage of the "booming" AIM market this year. Dowgate provide NOMAD (NOMinated ADvisor) services to AIM companies and also have full Corporate Broker status which means that they can fund placements on behalf of the companies they represent.

On first sight, the fact that Dowgate exist in the often veiled financial services sector makes you think twice about investing in company such as this because it would be impossible to understand what they were doing - however, think again!

DGT bring new companies to the AIM (Alternative Investment Market). For each new company "floated" on AIM, they take arrangement fees when acting as NOMAD. After the company is launched then for a nice steady earner DGT get another healthy chunk of cash every year for looking after them (note that all AIM companies must have a nominated adviser - thereby securing a ready source of recurring income).

Because DGT also act as a Corporate broker they can get a very healthy percentage for arranging placement of shares with insititutions before a new company floats. In addition, because placements come outside the sphere of yearly NOMAD work, they can also gain healthy percentages of placements which companies may need to make throughout the year when they need a quick injection of cash to speed growth.

Current NOMADships: 28 companies represented (gives recurring income of approx 480,000 per year)

Current on-going Brokerage agreements: 19 companies (income depends on placements)

For flotations, depending on the size of a company, fees charged will be anything from 50,000 to 100,000+ For placements (the real earner), DGT get anything from 3% to around 12% of the TOTAL AMOUNT RAISED - For example a new company raising 3M though a placement will earn DGT anything from 90,000 to 360,000 ! These figures are indicative as actual deals all differ due to circumstances and DGT sometimes take payment in shares - they still have a tasty chunk of Setstone shares and when this Russian exploration company comes back to AIM, predictions are that the share price will rocket. Note that the amount that this little company can earn in fees is huge and every new deal that comes through we know will contribute another healthy chunk into the bottom line. The good news with every new floatation means that it's another chunk of recurring revenue which could go on for years, with DGT having to do very little. New clients gained in 2005 are:

Mediazest (NOMAD & broker) Elite Strategies (NOMAD) Process Handling (NOMAD) Poland Investment Fund (NOMAD) Nanotech Energy (NOMAD & broker) Archimedia Ventures (NOMAD & broker) Red Leopard Holdings (NOMAD) Alba Mineral Resources (NOMAD & broker) Intandem Films (NOMAD & broker) Motive Television (NOMAD) IncaGold (NOMAD) Sportswinbet (NOMAD & Broker) Infoscreen Networks (NOMAD & Broker) Mark Kingsley (NOMAD & Broker) Croatia Ventures (NOMAD & Broker) Pantheon Leisure (NOMAD) Firenze Ventures (Ofex Advisor) FlightStore Group (NOMAD & Broker) Euro Capital Projects (NOMAD) Pearl Street Holdings (NOMAD) Worldwide Natural Resources (Ofex Advisor) Dovedale Ventures (Ofex Advisor) Other 2005 work completed:Neptune-Calculus VCT offer for subs of up to 12 million Advisory work for TGM on London Bus disposal for 20.4M Advisory work for Creightons on property disposal Advisory work for Hampton Trust on company restructuring Advisory work for Interbulk Investments on acquisition of Inbulk Advisory work for Fundamental-e Investments on two disposals Advisory work for Designer Vision re: Design Rights against Centurion Electronics

Human nature dictates that it is more difficult to run a profit than cut a loss. We always seem to think we must take a profit because if we don't we will lose out; conversely we must run losses because the trend is bound to change, I doubt it rarely does.

snakey - not sure how DGT can show higher profit in H2 than H1, since all new retainer fees for H2 will only have 1 or 2 quarters to run, compared to 3 or 4 during H1, so on curent operations, I believe H2 is bound to be less than H1. So I'm sticking with H1 541,625 and H2 892,500.

Cheers

Not really very much has happened today, very small volume and a small fall. Remember two things: the SP shot up from 0.40p in a very short period and following such an acceleration any stock will nearly always retrace; secondly, you should be looking at the potential for the SP, which most of agree will be in the region of 1p by the time the Interims are announced. Of course we may all be wrong, which is why you must always do your own research. Daily fluctuations in DGT are of little consequence, you must keep your eye on the big picture.

I see the website has been updated to include the admission of Infoscreen. The fee is not declared, but received the normal 15k for NOMAD and 5k for broker. Total costs for the admission was 135k so would imagine DGT got half or more of that.

m0dulus,

Wise words there from pth. Check out the volumes on the chart above and you'll see how low they are today.

No cause to panic at all, we've done our homework and can see that DGT are going to post some tasty profits in the interims in late August. DYOR in DGT's case is going to the library section on the website and adding up all the cash they've received for new NOMADships, brokerships, placements and floats.

The client list continues to grow at a healthy rate and each client has to pay DGT a tidy sum each year. This recurring income is getting close to covering DGT's costs on an annualised basis, so as time goes on any new income will go straight to the bottom line.

TR tells us that they are still very busy, which means that we should see plenty of transactions coming through in the second half of the company year also.

Not everyone has the vision of the longer term viewpoint, once these characters have pocketed their profits it's onwards and upwards!

Really lucky Andy, that 300k trade had to pay 0.63p. Also something wrong with L2, the 2 MMs on the Bid are on at 0.55, showing as 0.53 for some strange reason.

sidtrix - 24 Jun 2005 15:05 - 912 of 2787

Just topped up 500k at .585 :)
PTH thats after your 300k buy... wonder why I got a better price?

Was hoping for around .55 but think by dec end .03p wont make a difference ;)

ptholden - 24 Jun 2005 15:11 - 913 of 2787

Wonder if there is a protected trade sell waiting in the wings, strange that WINS are knocking out stock so far within the 'yellow strip' Was rather under the impression that at the very worst buys had equalled sells recently. Either that or paranoia is setting in!!

sidtrix - 24 Jun 2005 15:17 - 914 of 2787

Even if Paranoia sets in... just look at the figures and the trading staement!

The numbers dont lie.... share price is way too cheap... oh well (us long term investers will see the light of day)
Let MM's & day traders have their fun :)

corehard - 24 Jun 2005 15:34 - 915 of 2787

sidtrix - Amen to that !!!!!

ptholden - 24 Jun 2005 15:35 - 916 of 2787

sid

Very happy with the trading statement and the business this year.

And there goes the sell, 720k @ 0.49p. Must have been desperate to sell at that price. I would have given him 0.50p quite happily!!

pth

stockdog - 24 Jun 2005 15:38 - 917 of 2787

pth - I have Infoscreen in at 17.5k NOMAD and 5k Broker retainers (for 3/4 months of the year remaining) = 16,875 plus 50k transaction fees - gross total 72.5k out of 135k - about what you thought.

Nice buying andy and sid - anywhere under .60p is a good average up price IMHO. The sellers are probably the many half-traders very happy with a quick 40-50% profit and why not - whatever your plan is, trade it. Still plenty more of us longer-term holders wanting to top up and new investors attracted by an SP starting to motor.

I would expect the chart to form a nice flag now, prior to its next upward break on TR's trading announcement 1st week July (I'm guessing here, he may feel obliged to if the SP continues to be somewhat volatile).

Roll on August for the interims - just to see if we're half right, at least.

Tumbleweed again !

Ted1 - 28 Jun 2005 11:09 - 919 of 2787

Yep, eager to put the price down on any weakness. Although there isn't any really over the top if you ask me.
