How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

Morning Steve

Just switched on to see that Colly with the support from the tailenders have played a blinder of an innings to bring it to a very respectable 393.

Layed off my Eng position at 7.0 and will wait to see what Ind does before getting in again.

Fundamentalist - 02 Mar 2006 08:07 - 9024 of 10502

Morning bak

new ball is key

tail enders supported well and Colly played fantastically, made me shuffle my position around a lot this am

bakko - 02 Mar 2006 08:10 - 9025 of 10502

Out!

Getting out at 7.0 looking 10 mins too premature!

Fundamentalist - 02 Mar 2006 08:20 - 9026 of 10502

Happy days, finally KP has caught one.

Getting a bit hectic - 2 of my shares had final results this am - have greened my position for now though greener on results than draw, need to keep an eye on the markets for a bit though still got the cricket on :-)

Fundamentalist - 02 Mar 2006 09:22 - 9027 of 10502

Have started laying the draw again at below 3. Some help for the bowlers and a very promising start for Panesar (hed have 2 wickets if the umps were consistent!!!). Cant see how the draw price can go much lower before England bat again, though plenty of upside if wickets fall. Likelt to back it back on the fall of a wicket and then look to re-enter when it falls

compoundup - 02 Mar 2006 12:01 - 9028 of 10502

Still short the draw on India / England but uncertainty creeping in.

UAE Tennis - sooo tempted to lay Henman against Nadal at around 4.0 but he's actually started strong - channel 410 Eurosport BTW

No hurry will likely get a better price soon - edit: or not ;)

bakko - 02 Mar 2006 12:36 - 9029 of 10502

Managed to go green on the cricket this am but I'm sure I'll be adding new positions over the next 3 days.

There was a point when the draw odds suddenly collapsed down to 2.4s where I grabbed as much as I could on the lay side then backed back within 15mins at 2.8s :-)

Also scalped a few on India.

Edward...Thanks for Henman v Nadal match and will check it out.

abaccus - 02 Mar 2006 12:43 - 9030 of 10502

Bakko, you convinced me. trying my luck/arm on the tennis and cricket!

bakko - 02 Mar 2006 13:23 - 9031 of 10502

Tony.....Go for it!

Went green on the tennis too soon but happy with any profit.

Fundamentalist - 02 Mar 2006 13:28 - 9032 of 10502

Bak

I grabbed a chunk at 2.5 at a similar time (bit slower than you and missed the 2.4).

Just something to be wary of, on all accounts it rained a little after play and there is a forecast chance of rain affecting play on saturday, only a small chance but worth keeping an eye on

Harlosh - 02 Mar 2006 13:29 - 9033 of 10502

What happened to the Nadal/Henman game?

bakko - 02 Mar 2006 13:33 - 9034 of 10502

Steve

Thanks and will keep an eye on the forecast.

Btw. Just waiting on Tony to confirm a date for our usual bash but shouldn't be too far away.

bakko - 02 Mar 2006 13:36 - 9035 of 10502

John

Nadal won in 2 sets. 7-6 6-1.

Henman forced a tie break in the 1st set and lost it 7-1 then did his usual capitulation in the 2nd set. You could have got 1.4s on Nadal before the tie break.

Harlosh - 02 Mar 2006 13:41 - 9036 of 10502

Thanks Bak

Wonder what the best price was to lay Henman.

I missed the whole game :-((

bakko - 02 Mar 2006 13:55 - 9037 of 10502

I didn't even know he was playing either and have Edward to thank for bringing it up earlier (I owe you one for this).

I greened up as I had to interview a potential new recruit. When got back it was over. Couldn't have been more than 20 mins!

bakko - 02 Mar 2006 14:44 - 9038 of 10502

Attention all Henman layer's.

Read this Henman may quit this year.

chocolat - 02 Mar 2006 22:29 - 9039 of 10502

Ooops - just catching up with you lot.
So what's the script then?

Fundamentalist - 02 Mar 2006 22:30 - 9040 of 10502

Anyone trading the cricket i would be wary of laying the draw currently. It has rained heavily in Nagpur since close of play earlier today and play is unlikely to start on time. If it doesnt then there is likely to be a huge overreaction in the prices

Teach me to have my first lie in on the basis that the first session is likely to meander - looks like its been a wonderful morning for England

bakko - 03 Mar 2006 08:05 - 9042 of 10502

198-7!

What the hell happened to India this morning!

Just capitilised from Eng's odds movements a few moments ago :-)

Must have just got ahead of other Eng backers who are waking up this score
