How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

Ooops - just catching up with you lot.
So what's the script then?

Anyone trading the cricket i would be wary of laying the draw currently. It has rained heavily in Nagpur since close of play earlier today and play is unlikely to start on time. If it doesnt then there is likely to be a huge overreaction in the prices

Teach me to have my first lie in on the basis that the first session is likely to meander - looks like its been a wonderful morning for England

bakko - 03 Mar 2006 08:05 - 9042 of 10502

198-7!

What the hell happened to India this morning!

Just capitilised from Eng's odds movements a few moments ago :-)

Must have just got ahead of other Eng backers who are waking up this score

Fundamentalist - 03 Mar 2006 08:08 - 9043 of 10502

Bak

England were 18-1 last night and are 7/4 now - i think you missed most of it lol

Glad i left a nice green number by England overnight. Draw price looks very short again to me though this appears to be partly driven by weather worries, looking for a lay entry point

bakko - 03 Mar 2006 08:17 - 9044 of 10502

Yep...Looks like I missed about 95% of it lol

But I got up at 192-7 and saw Eng's odds continuously collapsing on the back side and managed to get on at 2.86 and got out at 2.6 so not complaining too much

Scrip - perhaps you already have a better source than this one for football team/match stats, but I mention it in case any of its features add to what's available elsewhere. Includes historic analyses of goalscoring patterns per team, all columns sortable, with hover-over access to latest betting odds on all imminent matches. Plus charts. Covers other sports too.

An amazing scoreline in the Aus v SA cricket 1 dayer. Aus are 15-4 in the 12th over needing 290 to win

Fundamentalist - 03 Mar 2006 17:51 - 9047 of 10502

Bak

a very profitable scoreline too :-)

this is the worst ground in the world to try and chase under lights, side batting first wins 80% of the time and 250 is usually plenty here (only been chased once in 30 odd games).

by the way, same scenario at Durban for one of the later one dayers

Harlosh - 04 Mar 2006 13:21 - 9048 of 10502

Fundamentalist - 04 Mar 2006 13:30 - 9049 of 10502

bakko - 04 Mar 2006 14:29 - 9050 of 10502
