Selly Oak nowhere near Wrexham..who Morton's Fork?

survived87 - 21 Feb 2008 16:47 - 906 of 1427

Morton's Fork is an expression that describes a choice between two equally unpleasant alternatives (in other words, a dilemma), or two lines of reasoning that lead to the same unpleasant conclusion. It is analogous to the expressions "between the devil and the deep blue sea" or "between a rock and a hard place."

PS: Tried The Anchor for the first time this lunchtime. Food is quite good value. Fairly Quiet. (And The White Swan just down the road from it was even quieter). Here's the new Anchor website:

....and the earliest reference to Morton's Fork?

Pete Waterman defends Rugby rail fix Feb 21 2008

COVENTRY pop tycoon Pete Waterman will return to TV at 7.30pm tomorrow for a programme about the region's railways.

The rail enthusiast will travel across the West Midlands on the West Coast main line meeting passengers and celebrities.

On BBC's Inside Out programme he will try to convince passengers they have never had it so good on Britain's railways.

It came about after he wrote an article for a national newspaper criticising those who jumped on the bandwagon' in criticising the delays caused by over-running repairs near Rugby station during the New Year.

He said: "We should be grateful that they have re-laid what was the worst kink in the rail network [at Rugby]. We nibbled at the problem for 40 years but no government has been brave enough to tackle it until now."

Stan - 02 Mar 2008 18:32 - 910 of 1427

Tomorrow Fred,

1. February 18th. (Monday) 1pm till when people want to go, at The Wellington, Bennetts Lane. 5 mins from New Street Station http://www.thewellingtonrealale.co.uk. They don't do food but do welcome customers to bring their own. They supply knives and forks etc. Who ever gets there first try and grab a table in a quite area of the pub and put a Shares/IC or FT on the table so it's recognisable to newcomers.

2. March 3rd. (Monday) 4.30 till again, when people want to go at The Anchor, Bradford Street , Digbeth. 10 minutes walk from New Street Station http://www.the-anchor-inn.fsnet.co.uk/. Food served all day. Ask for the former No Smoking room.

So, one Midday Meeting for those that prefer the daytime at the current favourite pub The Welly and one early evening meeting at our original Hostelry The Anchor.

If you can't make the beginning don't worry just arrive when you can as we don't use an agenda...just remembered the meeting after Christmas was going to be a meal affair, shall we scratch that until another time?

All welcome.

No response from the other lads or feed back.

Please post If you are going as I don't want to be the only one there. Think I'll probably have some food as well ordering about 7ish if anyones interested.

PS. Can anyone recommend a relatively cheap BB, preferably walkerable to New Street please?..and no It's not for tomorrow nights meeting -): would save me trawling through the tourist info lists, Thanks.

ED: No food served tonight (how disappointingly unsociable), just checked with them.

Doesn't appear to be any news on the Wrexham & Shropshire website yet regarding the starting date.

However, it's full stam ahead for Thomas:
"A new theme park, Thomas Land, featuring the much loved children's character Thomas the Tank Engine has officially opened."
