Success and Mrs TOK is a very happy bunny surfing away merrily. The solution came from a poster on the BT forum: untick the LAN box in Internet Options. As simple as that. But thanks for your thoughts guys. TOK

re - defragging

Has any of you tried "RegistryBooster ", the reviews are a bit mixed.

It boost of fixing a few things ... It conducts deep scans of your registry to check for errors and conflicts, then repairs and optimizes the registry to peak performance and stability. Periodic scans will keep your registry "clean" and will greatly enhance your system's performance and stability. You'll see immediate increases in speed and decreases in system conflicts.

This registry stuff is a load of crap, I am not saying its not true its just that for most people its irrelevant, you should not play with the registry unless you have a problem.

Same is true for defrag really, most modern operating systems don't need it especially as most people now have disk drives that are much bigger that the space they actually use.

Haystack - 18 Oct 2010 12:54 - 9208 of 11003

Just tried yahoo mail on my FF version 3.5.7 and it works fine for me.

klal - 18 Oct 2010 12:59 - 9209 of 11003

MG, try clearing your FF cache, re-open the browser and try again. Might just do the trick.

Haystack - 18 Oct 2010 13:02 - 9210 of 11003

I have upgraded FF to version 3.6.10 and it works fine with Yahoo mail.

Bolshi - 18 Oct 2010 13:54 - 9211 of 11003

Mega. I had some problems a few months back & I seem to remember that it would work with Mail Classic but not 'new' view of Yahoo Mail. It just sorted itself out one day.
Edit. That was on IE so probably not same problem.

On the question of web-based e-mail systems....

Which is the better of the two, GMail or Yahoo Mail?

Anyone started with one and then changed from that one over to the other?

ExecLine - 18 Oct 2010 15:11 - 9213 of 11003

As an Outlook Express user, I'm also on the look out for the best way of converting from an e-mailing system on my machine to one on the web.

I would also greatly like to store my old e-mails on the web too, and in easily retrievable and readable form.

HARRYCAT - 18 Oct 2010 15:12 - 9214 of 11003

Gmail is good. Not tried Yahoo. Also if you are running a mobile phone with the Android OS, Gmail is the easiest to set up and use.

I converted from Outlook Express to Yahoo Mail some years ago and mail forwarded the existing emails to myself on the yahoo mail system. I now have them all for reference.

Bolshi - 18 Oct 2010 15:51 - 9217 of 11003

I find Yahoo Mail excellent. I like the amount of storage, being able to retrieve my mail from anywhere, secure & the disposeable email address feature is pretty darned good.

Mega Bucks - 18 Oct 2010 16:52 - 9218 of 11003

Cleared FF cache out and it works a treat, thanks again for all your suggestions.
