So Bernie gets his free place in a secure retirement home, but where is the money. Perhaps the feds should start digging on Mt Sion?

quite right tabby, but some here feel they have to apply identifiable labels, so just being "bad guy" does not suit their criteria

cynic being jewish is no more an idenifiable label than being muslim, hindu or christian, you are delibeerately trying to cloud the issue that Madoff is the worst kind of conman by using his religion to steal from as you say the "moms and pops" who trusted him because he is a jew. If only he could be persuaded by his fellow jews to disclose where he has hidden the money he stole.

They should crucify the thieving bastard, and his family should be jailed for life, or at least sent to live in Palestein

whatever the sentiment, it has to be an absolute certainty that BM was not acting on his own .... exactly who else was knowingly involved may never be discovered, though i cannot believe even SEC will allow this issue to rest ..... after all, they need to find a scapegoat for their own culpability

Clubman, one of the reasons for Jews being picked on, is that they are generally in the minority groupings in any country, other than Israel. If you want to pick a fight the minority group are often a safe bet. One can vilify first and then jump upon and beat up. Especially useful when a diversion or a scapegoat is needed. (Speaker Martin is a typical example of this. The problem of "expenses" has not gone away, but attention has been deviated away from the crooked.)
Also, another factor is that some strands of Jews overtime, have been very successful in the "financial markets" money leding and the lenders of money for financing "wars" etc.
Sometimes, when the "wars" were over, the borrowers who did not wish to refund the lenders "turned on" and use various other ways, or excuses, to denigrate and attack the minority group. No doubt, hoping to excuse their own responsibilities by driving the annoyances or those they were indebted to, from their areas and their "homelands".
Similar, in many ways, to the Israeli "settlers" who drive Arabs off the land owned by generations of Arabs in Israel.

interestingly, jews were also singled out during times of plague, for their hygiene laws made them less prone to being infected - de facto, if they didn't catch the plague, they must have caused it

I hate to say this, (and it's not because we have a personal relationship going on, on the asc board) but I agree with cynic, the majority of investers put their savings with Madoff because of what they could read and hear of his investments and holdings. Just the same as we could have put our savings into the Icelandic bank or any of the other's offering high returns and loosing the lot. A few of the Jewish community would have trusted him on faith, but most were in for the so called high returns and business ventures. He was good at his job... scamming.

anyway, ripping out throats and love in a peaceful world, or was it the other way around? no matter, colour me confused by such statements in the same sentence.

i merely declined to react to the rhetoric!
BB ..... i don't think BM offered huge annual returns - 8/10% springs to mind - and that of course was the clever bit ..... had BM even suggested say 20% returns, then the alarm bells should have rung with any potential investor, though greed may have overcome the reticence.

i have already stated i agree with you. why do you call me an arse? because i dont understand what a metaphor is? lots of people dont , they just read what they read.
anyway its easy to use it as an excuse after the event,.which is what you always seem to do to suit your means, along with telling everyone that they take you too seriously, but only after you realise you are wrong, plus lots of other excuses, always after the event,, cynic will no doubt answer for himself.
were you wrong to suggest ripping out a tongue? would there have been or could a better metaphor have been used? if so then why not have used it? or did you mean it? or maybe none at all?

i once went into a chemist, many years ago, and i promise you this is a true story. do i have to make a disclaimer about what is to follow, so as not to be sued by someone? this world is just crazy. anyway back to my story.
i picked up a packet of condoms, they looked interesting, ( i was married ) and handed them to the counter assistant to pay, oh no , says she you have the wrong ones here insists she, these are for black people you want these says she producing from under the counter a different packet,( my original choice of condoms were black in colour and sort of prickly/bobbly) i was too embaressed to argue with her, although i think she was the most embarressed.
black condoms? blimey we had em years ago, and with the bobbles. no wonder i'm old haT. probably normal today, what do i know? true story.
