FTSE + FTSE 250 - consider trading (FTSE)

cynic - 20 Oct 2007 12:12

rather than pick out individual stocks to trade, it can often be worthwhile to trade the indices themselves, especially in times of high volatility.

for those so inclined, i attach below charts for FTSE and FTSE 250, though one might equally be tempted to trade Dow or S&P, which is significantly broader in its coverage, or even NASDAQ

for ease of reading, i have attached 1 year and 3 month charts in each instance

cynic - 06 Nov 2012 13:55 - 9407 of 21973

both of you could make a turn, but i don't think the market will move much before the election result, and perhaps not even then

Shortie - 06 Nov 2012 13:56 - 9408 of 21973

-25pts at the moment, so see how it goes, I do favour the downside though, support has been trully tested over the last week.

cynic - 06 Nov 2012 14:02 - 9409 of 21973

even if the 12900/13000 support is broken purely on inexplicable knee-jerk, i think that will merely present a buying opportunity (long)

Chris Carson - 06 Nov 2012 14:08 - 9410 of 21973

And out for now @ 13,155.5 + 21. Back to bed working tonight.

Shortie - 06 Nov 2012 14:16 - 9411 of 21973

Well done Chris, a swing back the other way now would be nice.. I'm expecting volatility so a good chance of making something.

skinny - 06 Nov 2012 14:27 - 9412 of 21973

Tough call today chaps - going to spin my coin shortly!

skinny - 06 Nov 2012 14:40 - 9413 of 21973

Hmmmm - God help us (the markets) if 'Mitt' wins!

Shortie - 06 Nov 2012 14:46 - 9414 of 21973

Debating opening another short position

skinny - 06 Nov 2012 14:49 - 9415 of 21973

I've had a small one @80, but reluctant to get too involved yet - CAD PMI @3, but all eyes on the results now I guess.

halifax - 06 Nov 2012 14:50 - 9416 of 21973

short seems the best idea at the moment in case there is a "hung" poll as there was a few years back.

cynic - 06 Nov 2012 14:55 - 9417 of 21973

i suggest do nothing!

Shortie - 06 Nov 2012 14:56 - 9418 of 21973

tomasz - 06 Nov 2012 15:22 - 9420 of 21973

do nothing not really exciting, is it

skinny - 06 Nov 2012 15:26 - 9421 of 21973

I know there aren't many yield seekers here, but RSL is on fire today currently +8.4% and with a yield of nearly 8%.

Shortie - 06 Nov 2012 15:36 - 9422 of 21973

Already hold resolution equity in my ISA... Not a bad stock for yield, cover alright too.
