How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

Home now Bak but look to have missed the best of the action.

Harlosh - 20 Mar 2006 05:53 - 9463 of 10502

How's the cricket progressing Steve. England look as though they have the upper hand at the moment. I feel a lay coming on :-)

Harlosh - 20 Mar 2006 05:55 - 9464 of 10502

Just checked the odds. A lttle higher than expected so shall wait patiently.

Fundamentalist - 20 Mar 2006 07:57 - 9465 of 10502

Morning John

EVOLUTION - 20 Mar 2006 18:21 - 9466 of 10502

scrip i notice theres a training course on the 24th. is there likely to be any others in the near future? if so are they always in London or Manchester? or do you ever hold them in Birmingham. I wont be able to make it to this one as my wife is due to give birth at anytime.

Also in order to become a better trader do you need to be proficient in stats? as this is not my strongest point. any advice would be appreciated by anyone on this issue. Thanks in advance

Fundamentalist - 20 Mar 2006 19:40 - 9467 of 10502

Evo

stats can help in some of the longer term almost position like trading, but they are not critical at all, and irrelevant to a lot of the trading techniques which are far more like share based charting techniques

congrats re the kiddy and good luck for the birth

PS anyone tradeing the footie tonite?

Dil - 20 Mar 2006 21:14 - 9468 of 10502

Just got in Fundy , may chuck a stash on West Ham if they go 2 up .

Bak taught me everything :-)

Dil - 20 Mar 2006 21:22 - 9469 of 10502

Missed those 2 quick goals from Watford , Scrip'll be happy.

Man City down to 10.

Scripophilist - 20 Mar 2006 21:57 - 9470 of 10502

"Scrip'll be happy"

Hmmm....

Got lucky on the City vs West Ham match, been testing some software and was in the market on the right side when West Ham scored. Laid West Ham at 1.01 and was matched when City scored so very happy. Just luck though!

Scripophilist - 20 Mar 2006 21:58 - 9471 of 10502

Evolution, We have cancelled the course on the 24th, I'll let you know if I plan to do anymore anywhere.

bakko - 21 Mar 2006 10:58 - 9472 of 10502

Dil....LOL at "Bak taught me everything :-)"

That was just an intro lesson from my "101 ways to live dangerously on betfair"

In fact, if you'd adopted my "kitchen sink strategy" on West Ham last night you'd have been s in. OK, you'd have had to crap it for 5mins but it'd only be mere milliseconds compared to what I had to endure during that final session of Eng/Ind 1st test 2wks ago.

Fundamentalist - 21 Mar 2006 11:28 - 9473 of 10502

lol "the Bakko theory" - im looking forward to the book already :-)

Harlosh - 21 Mar 2006 11:31 - 9474 of 10502

LOL

abaccus - 21 Mar 2006 12:17 - 9475 of 10502

Can I have a signed copy?

bakko - 21 Mar 2006 12:37 - 9476 of 10502

It's going to print as I speak and will be signing copies at Waterstones at the launch date which isn't confirmed yet.

Regulars on here will definately get a heavy discount on the published price.

In fact, I can guarantee that your betfair account will get a hefty discount if you follow the lessons outlined in the book!

I challenge anybody who can even make it to lesson 10 before getting wiped out!!

Dil - 21 Mar 2006 13:25 - 9477 of 10502

I laid Man City at 1-0 greened up at 2-0 threw the kitchen sink on West Ham at 2-0 then .... "crapped myself for 5 minutes".

:-)
