Please report bugs and enhancements (BUGS)

andy.lovell - 04 Nov 2002 11:26

If you're having any problems, or want to suggest some improvements, please post below!

Level2 changes
In the last few weeks we've needed to implement some code changes to make us compliant with the LSE's rules on the access of Level2 data.

The following requirement is now in place:
You can only use 1 program on 1 computer to access Level2 on MoneyAM using a single username.

This means that you are able to view as many Level2 windows using any one particular browser, or program, that you wish, however you will not be able to use both Firefox and Internet Explorer at the same time (the same goes for using Quote Tracker or TradeSeeker at the same time as viewing it using a web browser)

If you find you're being logged off of MoneyAM's Level2 with the message 'you've logged on from another location' then check the above and make sure you're not running any other programs at the same time before reporting this as a bug.

The white fonts in the buttons above, did a child crayon them in ?? They're awful (fuzzy)

Do we have to keep a white background ? Why can't we have oozzy yellow (FFFFCC) very easy on the eyes. Keeps tempers from fraying and all that.

Yellow backgrounds can be switched on from user settings. Here's how you do it:

Buy a box of Quality street, unwrap all the yellow ones, carefully remove the foil from the film wrapping, then lick the film and push it onto your screen. Voila! FFFFCC!

It works a treat.

(with easy eyes and feeling mellow)

May switch to purple later.

Gausie, quality street, and where can you buy them where I live ? More like boxes of Avantgarde Raisin and pistacchio truffles with mocha induced cacao coated in dominican repeblican pepper sugar here.

I've just worked out a better way, down to the gent's place called FinanceBB, if it's still working that is........ :-)

Here's a thought for you:

As some of you already know I have written a shareware program called StockHistory that I use to gather data from "the other site" and may adapt for this site. However to be honest most sites including this one now provide pretty much all the facilities that StockHistory does with one (for me) big exception.

One of the features of StockHistory is that you can maintain an account of your own portfolio and its value - entering buys, sells, divis, withdrawals, deposits etc. It then maintains a record of its current value and a "unit value" based on the current SELL price of all stocks held. This is itself is useful and is provided by many other programs and would certainly be a nice feature on this site. However I then add a couple of other features which I think would be real nice on moneyam. First I allow a sort of virtual EPIC for your own portfolio (actually you can have multiple portfolios) allowing it to be displayed on your stockwatch just like any other epic giving you an instant picture of you current performance. Secondly I keep a history of the portfolio value allowing it to be charted just like any other EPIC. If you were to provide these features online then I really don't think I would need StockHistory any longer and would happily just use your site.

Now trying Mars Bar wrappers - excellent for market crash days.

Could be onto something here....

Mega Bucks - 12 Dec 2002 11:04 - 102 of 7315

not a nice shade of yellow is it?

Addo - 12 Dec 2002 11:04 - 103 of 7315

CS94 Lovely color, lovely on the eyes. That's 10k please. Normal channels, cash or BVI

Why is it when you click on a thread to open it upo, however long it is you default to the first post, wouldn't it be better to default to the next unread post, so you don't have to page down. Surely that makes sense ? We've had this before.

I still think MIRC beats this type of system. Could do with a small version of IRC facility within this site to chat amongs groups etc, real time rather than this old worldly BB thingy.

I'm sure that not many BBers here have ever used MIRC or IRC. It's eons better than this system

Addo - Trainspotters and steam?

Addo - 12 Dec 2002 11:10 - 106 of 7315

Gausie, yes but real time chatting so you have conversation. By the time I'm answering someone else, you've written something else before me and all that, it's bloody stoopid this, almost quill-like

Gausie - 12 Dec 2002 11:11 - 107 of 7315

/slap Addo

Never heard of it. :-)

Addo - 12 Dec 2002 11:18 - 108 of 7315

Gausie, it's years since I used it, but it's great for real time chatting. Bit like comparing royal mail (this) with telephone (that)

On charting - any chance of having the time scale skip weekends and other non trading days or at least giving the option. Currently you get flat periods every weekend when viewing say one month.

V

Vertigo - 12 Dec 2002 11:30 - 110 of 7315

Sorry I tell a lie - it's not flat it just draws the line straight through the weekend so distorting the actual gradient of a rise/fall over the weekend.

Also still not up to date. Looking at chart for one month currently only shows up to 10/12 two days behind.

Another thing is that I'd quite like to see a chart of intraday movement over the last week at least not just the last day.

Mighty Micro, please tell me why this still works if it is proprietary software.

MightyMicro - 12 Dec 2002 12:33 - 112 of 7315

Addo: so you want a chat system. Ok, Ok, I'll spill the beans, we're contemplating having one. However, that's up to the MoneyAM folks, not my decision, I'm just an 'umble technology provider.

However, instant messaging systems on financial sites raise a number of issues which is why there is a standards committee chaired by a charming lady at UBS Warburg in London looking at the implications, particularly the audit and recording requirements.

We are keeping a watching brief on all this (obviously, we already have the technology).

Cheers

The input text box here does not allow white space to be accepted. This was also a problem on ADVFN at first.

There should be 10 spaces between be and 10.

Addo: Your posting above has a superfluous TD close tag - the browser then interprets part of your message as being outside the scope of the HTML table, and therefore it renders it outside the table, i.e. at the top, in this case.

This is always a potential problem when posters are allowed to use HTML tags in their postings. The alternatives would be to disallow HTML posts altogether (not a popular choice), provide a limited set of tags that people can use (for example, insert image, change text color etc), or write a full HTML parser to check that individual posts will not upset the layout of the page. The latter is obviously the most flexible option.
