Queen and Country (BABE)

Sponsor Your Queen and Country

BABE Rally 2007 - From BA (Big Apple) to BE (Big Easy), a total drive of 1500 miles in four days on the east coast of the USA, in a banger yank tank that has to cost less than $250.

In a moment of madness, Martini and Gausie have entered a team - "Queen and Country", the entry has been accepted, and so long as we can get all of the prelims in place, at the end of May we'll be setting off from New York with "New Orleans or bust" ringing loudly in our ears.

In case you're wondering, we'll start with Martini as Queen (Gausie will be Cunt-ry) and we'll swap over every now and again.

We'll be raising money for Save The Children, and hopefully, in due course, some of you guys will dig deep.

We're planning on getting a car in late April and flying out a week early to prepare it for the journey - which is at the end of May.

We'll be looking for a car with acres and acres of metal and rust, a decent set of brakes, an engine and gearbox that stands a chance of getting us 1500 miles, and a very loud stereo. We've decided that an open top is mandatory - even if we have to take a cutter to a saloon. A custom paintjob is planned, given sufficient time.

Goodluck G & M.

When exactly do you set off?

JC

Martini - 03 May 2007 16:25 - 96 of 269

Sniffer - Well the race starts 24th may and I recon we will need a week to sort out a car so set off 17th? Awaiting Gausie to arrvive back from Las Vegas to firm up.

Seymour Clearly Many thanks for the generous sponsorship.

On a lighter side I had a few people in my village who I emailed begging sponsorship come up to me very impressed with this venture. My email referred to us intending to buy a US tank and drive it across the States having cut the top off.

I said its not that impressive -- but a tank a tank they persisted.
The penny dropped and I had to explain that the tank was a euphemism for a large American car not the thing with tracks and a big gun.

They are not so impressed now.

OK if you were looking for another reason for sponsoring us how about the thought of Gausie and me dressed up doing Elvis?

From an email from the organisers: -

Each year, we select a character or theme for a "fancy dress" day ("costume
day" for the Yanks among us). This year Europe will see an invasion of
pirates and men in schoolgirl uniforms. Not to be outdone, American will
see....... >>>drum roll< <<......... Elvis.

That's right, boys and girls. How much more American can you get? Each and
every member of your team gets to be Elvis-For-A-Day.

Here's how it works:

Pick your favorite Elvis (remember the postage stamp vote several years
back?) and assemble your costume. Is Viva-Las-Vegas-Elvis your style? Or
are you more of a Love-Me-Tender-Leather-Jacket-Elvis type?

Show up at the Day 2 Start Line in Harrisonburg ready to spend your day as
The King!

While you're at it, you might want to put your heads together as a team and
decide which Elvis song is your favorite and (hint hint) learn a chorus or
two. Remember, there are points involved in daily challenges!!

'Nuff said.

So it's the King-of-Bling older Elvis, the Lemme-Be-Your-Teddy-Bear younger
Elvis, or any Elvis in between, the choice is yours. Team members do not
need to choose the same Elvis era, by the way.

Have fun getting your act together, so to speak, and we'll see you and your
pompadours in Harrisonburg!

thankya...thankyaverymuch

That email is perfectly timed. Am currently checking out white jumpsuits in the Las Vegas King store.

Big problem for Martini - they dont do chest wigs in white.
