Megs...u a sb or cfd trader on equities?

It's fun when ur winning and probably Ouch when ur on the other end....playing small potatoes at the moment, like everything I need to know a strategy, was wondering can you go long ans short on the DOW at the same time...i.e long at 4300 and short at 4400 and have them both open at the same time??

I have a short sell at 4020 if it hits it ...went to 4011...and then back down....last hour could see some profit taking...

Looked at Lgen and also RSA...but decided to go for ARM and Colt for quickie up on reuters from 1.14 so far...Colt and ARM should give 5 -10% by end of week...

I take both long and short positions on the dow many times and u should be able to do it.Also bear in mind the trade day range eg: -100 to say +100 ffor argument sake then you can take both long and short at say zero (+/- few points either side) and take gains on both trades. I usually put them at equal value eg 5/pt.

CMC confirmed has been triggered to short$10-point...

Now I pray it goes down...by 60points....or more, saying that I'd be plsed to see it finish nr 9370...

cmc also said you cannot long and short on same index, but only if you open 2 seperate a/c's...

go to the top right hand side of this thread and you see your user setting in a blue oval box thing,click on it and it brings up your user setting...fill in your email address and update it.No one can see you email details they are hidden from every one then if you want to email some one privately you click on there user name in blue and send them a internal email. It is that simple....

igindex the service os very professional- but yes they do charge a good spread, but this nis made up on the service for eg: about 4months ago there was a spike in the system on dow and I was shorting it and I had put limit to close on auto at a ridiculous figure of 3500 and because of this down spike it went past it and Lo beholde they gave me the 3500 -when they could have reneged on the situ

CMC beginning to seriously annoy me today, I'll spare you the details guys...tried to do dirty by blaming me, on a trade done incorrectly by dealer, after much explaining I think they admitted reluctantly...however a couple of more weeks and I'll see if i want to stay with them...

Perhaps I shouldn't say this (as I don't use them) but you are no the first with
these kind of problems with cmc.

Re trading long and short. I've tried it with Finspreads.
If you have a trade going on an October future and you want
to hedge it on a retracement then you can bet the daily cash.
The current month future and daily cash on the Dow are not that far apart.
It is a useful strategy to lock in profit (or loss) until the market goes
your way again.

A point about Spreadbet spreads. Although there is no commission and the
spreads may seem reasonable, because the bet quotes are based on the futures
prices, their quotes are 'sqewed' in the direction of the market. Sometimes
by a lot of points. I'm talking about Indeces not stocks.
Being able to watch the futures prices is useful.
Basically when betting the Indeces you are trading the futures.

The Dow tested the 20 day low on the 29th Sept.
This indicates weakness until it breaks a new 20 day high.
Unless it rises above 9500.
Remember....check out the men in black.

I can't believe what happened earlier on. My account with Deal4free has dropped from 800-odd quid down to 6.81, and I didn't even have a bet open!!!

What is going on here?! Anyone else had this problem?

I phone Deal4free and they said it was a 'software problem' (after having tried about four times and having them hang up on me). Naturally I was worried that they had gone bust and were shifting the money over to Tel Aviv or something...Apparently not...But I still haven't got the money back in my account yet.

They've admitted that the amount I specified should be in there, but the action hasn't been completed yet. Dodgy or what? I didn't go furious with them, but that is highly irregular. I'm surprised nobody else has posted about this today...

My prediction from the crystal ball is that Dow is going to inch up and than (hopefully) with the jobless figures and farmers figures come in should take a nose dive -around 9230 would be a great weekend

My god did you see the dow spike up about 60-80pts at 13.30gmt _ guys be very careful today as that can eat us up in one swoop. I am down 3000 at present.
