I'm still getting those Java files on desktop. don't use s/scope and only get it when MAM stockwatch is on

Beginning to look as though Stockwatch is the culprit.

I don't use either, so I'm guessing its Java?

all,

you should be able to turn off debugging by going into the java console, this should stop the notepad error reports being produced and clogging up your desktop. If you have a java application running, you should see the java cup in the system tray (bottom right of your screen). right click on that and open java control panel.

Now click on advanced and expand the debugging section - make sure there are no ticks next to enable tracing, enable logging and show applet lifecycle exceptions. Click apply and then ok, and this should hopefully stop the issues you have.

If this does not work, try googling 'java debugging switch off' or words to that effect for any different instructions on the subject.

I`ve had that problem since starting using WIN7/IE, its carp it really is, you get all sorts of hints and tips popping up when a problem happens , but nothing resolves it, and don`t talk to me about IE9 ,

Good ol' fashioned XP with IE8. Can't beat it! ;o)

Help! My daughter's laptop suddenly developed a problem this morning - to begin with, it had difficulty connecting to our router. After a struggle, I managed to get it to connect. But then I noticed the connection speed was an abysmal 2 MB rather than the normal 54 MB. As a result, she can barely play on her favourite Disney sites. Strange thing is, all the other machines connect absolutely fine at full speed. It's just this one laptop.

It's a Win7 machine and I believe there was a Windows update applied this morning, after which things went bad.

What could be the cause? I can put up images of the network settings if that helps...

Why not try a system restore to a point/date prior to the installation of the Windows update & see if that improves the speed?

okay - managed to get back to near normal status. A reset of the router a coupla days ago seems to have caused the channel to change from 6 to 1. Changed this back to 6 from the admin page and rebooted. Now my daughter's laptop connects at about 11 MB which is a heck lot better than the earlier 1-2 MB. Keeping an eye on it though.....

Thanks CCC. Just one thing puzzles me - the wireless connection between daughter's laptop and the wireless router is stuck betwen 5 and 11 MB, it seems to suggest the laptop has reverted to "b" mode rather than "g" I firmly believe it was at at least 54 MB prior to this problem. I guess I need to tweak some network settings somewhere to force it work in the "g" or mixed mode. In reality, my BB speed is no more than 5 MB. Might not make a big difference on internet....

Want a very easy way to get at all those controls?

Then use 'GodMode'.

Simply open a New Folder in your drive C. eg, Just 'Right Click' anywhere on your Desktop.

Then Rename it (as follows):

GodMode.{ed7ba470-8e54-465e-825c-99712043e01c}


Select it and hit 'Return'.

Once that is done, the Folder's icon will change to resemble a 'control panel'. Selecting it will reveal how it contains dozens of control options about 40 or so, give or take.

I'm not sure whether you will actually turn into a computer God, but it is a handy way to get to all kinds of controls. GodMode is actually a shortcut to accessing the operating system's various control settings.
