Bought a Philips DVD Player with USB connector for a friend as I've had a few of them myself, the USB 16GB stick works fine, but when I plug in a WD portable HD in the USB port it says Invalid Input, but it does work on mine and my computers, any ideas???

Bolshi - 03 Aug 2011 14:57 - 9615 of 11003

panic.
I'm not sure if it's anything to do with your problem but I'm getting lots of error messages on Stockwatch since the last Java update. Definately with Stockwatch when it's running. 12 reports today.
This type of report appearing on my desktop :

# A fatal error has been detected by the Java Runtime Environment:
#
# EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION (0xc0000005) at pc=0x77118da9, pid=6432, tid=7012
#
# JRE version: 6.0_26-b03
blah blah blah
Edit : It still works by the way. Windows 7.

The Other Kevin - 03 Aug 2011 15:13 - 9616 of 11003

Same here, Bolshi. Four error messages today. Stockwatch seems to hang before opening in dribs and drabs. Other MoneyAm non-streaming pages not affected and neither are streaming pages from other sites. I've posted the full error message but nobody was interested. It's been going on for some weeks now.

Skinny and cowshapedfish were having the same problem. I wonder if they have it sorted?

skinny - 03 Aug 2011 15:25 - 9617 of 11003

No - I'm still getting them but I don't use stockwatch. I seem to get it if I go off the BB to a chart or rns or similar. I did send Ian one of the reports.

The Other Kevin - 03 Aug 2011 15:37 - 9618 of 11003

Did he reply, Skinny?

IanT(MoneyAM) - 03 Aug 2011 15:41 - 9619 of 11003

tok,

I passed this onto George who posted this reply on the bugs thread, where the issue had originally been raised:

Hi All,

Just a note to let you know that the Java Update 26 did cause a problem when multiple applets were loaded (e.g. combinations of stockwatches and trades applets), and then some were closed. On closing one, it caused Java to crash and that killed the remaining applets. A workaround for the problem caused by this update was put in place on Friday afternoon and seems to be working well.

Thanks
George

I have flagged it back up to George.

In the meantime, you could try rolling back to an earlier version of Java as that is the piece of software that is reporting the error.

Only a thank you reply - a couple of weeks ago now.

The Other Kevin - 03 Aug 2011 17:22 - 9621 of 11003

Ian/George

Thanks for the reply and explanation, dated 25 July. It's obviously not yet fixed for me.

Being a bit of a thicko how do I go back to an earlier Java version, or is George still working on the problem?

Uninstall it and then install an older version from

Sequestor,

I have not used Updata for about three years now.

I do remember loading it on a new machine and it failed due to one of those Windows permission checking jobbies. Sorry this is not only late but vague. (I lost a PC last week and have spent too many hours loading the new one).

Good morning Techies. I am sending a jpeg image from my computer via a CD with a requirement that it is in 300 dpi resolution. How do I set or find out what the resolution I am using is, please?

Haystack - 25 Aug 2011 10:51 - 9625 of 11003

One way is to view it in a photo editor package such as PaintShop or Photoshop.

In fact you can open it with MS Paint which comes with Windows and then do ctrl-E or click Image, Attributes at the top of the screen and it will tell you the resolution in dots per inch,

skinny - 25 Aug 2011 10:53 - 9626 of 11003

Has anyone used this site? I'm getting shockwave Flash crashes fairly often.

The Other Kevin - 25 Aug 2011 11:19 - 9627 of 11003

Thanks H

Also in the file explorer, right click on a picture file and view properties. Then click the Summary tab and click Advanced. That will tell you the dimensions in pixels, the resolution in dpi and the colour depth in bits.

If you need to resize some of your pictures, say for sending out with an e-mail, then try

IrfanView

It's a Free Download and quite easy to use.

Tip: For downsizing a picture I prefer to use the % tool

My wife has a Acer laptop that uses Vista and has 1.5gig memory, but as Vista takes up so much of the rsources i am looking at changing it to WinXP pro as i have a spare new copy laying around but if i install Winxp,so will i loose all the progs and setting that had been set up using Vista i dont want to loose everything but i also dont want to carry on using Vista.

If i can find a cheap version of Win7 i could wel be intersted in that option as well as i understand it that does not hog resources either.

Anyone done this before ???
