looks like todays announcements from the FSA on capital requirements arent too bad - banks will have to hold (a lot) more govt bonds. Its lucky we have a government needing to sell bucketloads of the things in the near future !!!

looks like some yield compression likely, as banks shift capital from structured instruments to govts; but I'm sure they'll make it back by charging us more for credit. Also looks likely that competition for deposits will pick up, so we might get a few bps more on savings accounts....
