stockbunny - 12 Jul 2004 19:25 - 9676 of 23498

Thank you guys...ok this is the problem..
Youngest son has knocked my computer with his knee when the CD drawer
was open and now we can't close it - any ideas???

STORMCALLER - 12 Jul 2004 19:32 - 9677 of 23498

stockbunny,
may well need case off, do you feel you can do that?

optomistic - 12 Jul 2004 19:33 - 9678 of 23498

Bunny, here we go no doubt lots of answers, but the drawer is probably damaged. Nothing much you can do in situ I think.
Answer. Remove CD from tower (power off and earthed) take to a friendly PC man for inspection. Probably will require new unit luckily they are now quite cheap. Or better still get friendly PC man to visit.

stockbunny - 12 Jul 2004 19:35 - 9679 of 23498

All this sounds very scary....OK ...will have to think about it...

optomistic - 12 Jul 2004 19:40 - 9680 of 23498

Bunny do you have a DVD drive, if you have it will do to drive CD's not sure if it will write on them though, have not tried that. Good luck and if you are not sure keep out of the tower.

stockbunny - 12 Jul 2004 19:44 - 9681 of 23498

OK how about I turn it off and turn it back on..I know that is stalling but
maybe..but will it drive itself nuts trying to close it if I do?

stockbunny - 12 Jul 2004 19:45 - 9682 of 23498

I have a DVD drive - thats the one thats stuck plus a cd writer drawer...

optomistic - 12 Jul 2004 19:49 - 9683 of 23498

Try anything but force Bunny, even just talk to it :-))

stockbunny - 12 Jul 2004 19:53 - 9684 of 23498

I've managed to push it back in almost, only about 1/2 or so hanging
out now..oh well thanks guys much appreciated, I'll get the manual out
and check how easy/difficult it is to get the DVD bit out - would
prefer to take IT to a repair man then the whole thing and I can imagine
the arm and a leg they would charge to come out - so that's probably a
non-starter....Thanks again...what is it they say never work with kids...
bless him, he's looking awful sheepish.....

snoball - 12 Jul 2004 20:00 - 9685 of 23498

That on & off idea should be worth a try sb.

snoball - 12 Jul 2004 20:03 - 9686 of 23498

stockbunny, once you get the outer case off it is surprisingly easy to remove CD/DVD/etc.
Just some screws and the little jack plug thing stuck in the back of it.
You MUST switch off at the power point though.

optomistic - 12 Jul 2004 20:05 - 9687 of 23498

Give him a screwdriver Bunny and let him have a go!! they are removed and replaced very easily. Once the tower case is off usually 2 screws and 2 leads, just pull/push connections. Unit slides out of the tower front.

optomistic - 12 Jul 2004 20:08 - 9688 of 23498

I think I'll try a pint of SC's guiness whilst I'm in here, must be good he drinks plenty :-))

optomistic - 12 Jul 2004 20:24 - 9689 of 23498

Drunk up now, night all

Socrates - 12 Jul 2004 20:53 - 9690 of 23498

Sorry about your problem Stockbunny, do you mean the cup-holder that comes out of the front from time to time?

Stormy
