What an interesting morning....continuing the saga from last night...
1. Into town to track down a new DVD/CD ROM drive - it was fine until they
cottoned on to the fact I was going to try and fit it myself - this is
where you men definitely have a huge advantage I can tell you, in being
taken seriously when it comes to anything involving the technical or mechanical!
One tried to sell me a new hard drive....Duh??no comment...
Another tried to completely baffle me with science on having to use
earthing belts or something....

2. Rang HP (Hew.Pack) technical advise and first suggestion was....
buy an external devise to do the job..(hmmm from my end)
But I want to fit it back where the old one was! (Hmmm at the other end..) Followed by Are you experienced in this sort of thing?
(This sounded remarkably like the conversation I had with the salesman..
Anyway cut a long story short, he did after a while start talking to me
on the level of OK so you want to have a go and it's not rocket science
really...(Yippee!!)Apparently I can 'earth myself' enough by touching a nearby radiator before I touch the inside of the computer, not a belt in sight...

Its not done yet, as I have to order a new one first, apparently you don't
mend these things, the only option is chuck it away, no point opening it up before a new one can go in, in its place. (Bet it is fix-ible really...)
So (sitting down with cup of tea) how's everyone else's day going??

optomistic - 13 Jul 2004 16:08 - 9696 of 23498

Glad you are sorting things out Bunny. Do you have any computor fairs in your area? if you do you will be able to buy a DVD drive there, and at a good price with some advise as well

Hello all, it's been a hard day today. Too much red with just a glimmer or two of blue. I'll settle for a nice cup of tea and a Celia Imry bun.

This is especially for Big Al, courtesy of little willie

It is just before Scotland v England at the next World Cup Group game.
Rooney goes into the English changing room to find all his team mates looking a bit glum. "What's up?" he asks. "Well, we're having trouble getting motivated for this game. We know it's important but it's only Scotland. They're crap and we can't be bothered".
Rooney looks at them and says "Well, I reckon I can beat these by myself, you lads go down the pub."
So Rooney goes out to play Scotland by himself and the rest of The English team go off for a few pints. After a few jars they wonder how the game is going, so they get the landlord to put the teletext on. A big cheer goes up as the screen reads "England 1 -Scotland 0 (Rooney 10minutes)".
He is beating Scotland all by himself! Anyway, a few more pints later and the game is forgotten until someone remembers "It must be full time now, let's see how he got on".
They put the teletext on."Result from the Stadium "England 1 (Rooney 10 minutes) -Scotland 1"(Angus McSh*te 89 minutes)".
They can't believe it, he has single handedly got a draw against Scotland!!
They rush back to the Stadium to congratulate him. They find him in the dressing room, still in his gear, sat with his head in his hands.
He refuses to look at them. "I've let you down, I've let you down."
"Don't be daft, you got a draw against Scotland , all by yourself. And they only scored at the very very end!

"No, No, I have, I've let you down..........

I got sent off after 12 minutes.
