How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

pth

last time i had probs scrip advised me 55 which is what i am currently using with no probs

pth, I asked one of the guys to look into it. You still seem to be on a slightly older version of the software which probably doesn't help. Standard connection mode started playing up for me on Friday so I switched to a different Betfair server. I didn't want to risk anything for the Derby which I put a substaintial amount of money through.

We always work hard to get the best possible stability for the software else I could be in big trouble with the amount of money I use. Unfortunately Betfair and the Internet can be a bit flaky at times.

I sat down last night and wrote up some material on the connection modes which I will get released to users this week. This should help you choose the best mode going forward.

England rediculously short to chase 325 at 2.5, the only thing is this will get dramatically shorter if england start well - 20/0 could see 2.0

will be laying england, just trying to fnd the right entry point

England 15-0 and 2.06 - crazy prices but a nice predictable market :-)

have started backing SL and will continue to do so

Fundamentalist - 05 Jun 2006 12:33 - 9790 of 10502

Backed SL at 1.97

20 mins later with no wickets theyre 1.8. maybe the market is waking up (i hope not)

Fundamentalist - 05 Jun 2006 15:47 - 9791 of 10502

backed SL all the way up (highest at 2.58), a most profitable test but most disappointing as an england fan, but murali has just been too good

Scrip, Fundy received email from Optic this morning advising of the upgrade which I unfortunately missed, hopefully this will resolve the problem and will re-install somewhat shaky confidence.

Poland look a massive price at odds against to beat Ecuador later.

Ecuador predominant form is at home where they play at altitude and they are notoriously bad travellers. Poland were relatively impressive in qualifying, except in the games against England and against the poorer sides they scored lots of goals

Ecuador have never progressed out of the group stage of the world cup and when the two met in a friendly in November, Poland won 3-0

Fundamentalist - 09 Jun 2006 17:44 - 9797 of 10502

Anyone else unable to logon via the api or the web?

compoundup - 09 Jun 2006 17:45 - 9799 of 10502

Let the fun begin... Liquidity certainly not an issue. Maybe helped by all those traders who sold their shares last month ;-) (Still got my core DNX Steve)

edit. Crashed it has.

Fundamentalist - 09 Jun 2006 17:47 - 9800 of 10502

Hi Edward

long time no speak. My DNX core holding is the only one i currently have, rest is still in cash

compoundup - 09 Jun 2006 17:50 - 9801 of 10502

Hi Steve, had a profitable afternoon on game-by-game market in both Federer and Nadal matches at Roland Garros and was just settling down to learn the ropes on the footy, waiting for half time when...

Fundamentalist - 09 Jun 2006 17:52 - 9802 of 10502

Lol

i had planned to back over 2.5 goals but fell asleep in the garden - came inside just as the third goal went in

Not a trade but think Poland look a cracking bet later on

Not traded the tennis (well done!), been too busy on the cricket of late

Fundamentalist - 09 Jun 2006 18:05 - 9803 of 10502

back up at my end now

compoundup - 09 Jun 2006 18:11 - 9804 of 10502

Seems to be working here too but I'm not going to trust it on this Germany match. Just have to do some exam revision with children instead - and I thought that was all over, lol

sealed - 09 Jun 2006 21:24 - 9805 of 10502

So Ed Murray really was one of the willy wonka winners lol. And there's me, the cynic, thinking it a was a windup.
