Hi I have ACER 3690 laptop,The battery is BATBL50L4 14.8V,
just bought a replacement battery (not original manufacturer battery )
when i put the new battery in the laptop i keep getting ERROR MESSAGE THE BATTERY IS NOT A ACER BATTERY,PLEASE CHECK YOUR BATTERY AGAIN,and it turns off and comes on again with the same message, and it start all over again. help

HARRYCAT - 27 Feb 2012 08:30 - 9810 of 11003

chuckie, that's a real problem for lots of folk. It seems to need a BIOS correction, but that comes with it's own problems. Seems people just keep trying other batteries until one works, but with Acer there is another problem....."some acer laptop internals, especially the models that have acer's quick charge technology require batteries that can handle the rate of charging......", so with generic batteries you may find that they don't comply. Not much help I'm afraid, but seems the help forums are full of people with the same problem!

hodgins - 27 Feb 2012 19:54 - 9812 of 11003

thanks Kernow, has a crazy keyboard, combination of blue Fn key and blue Num LK has sorted problem

MightyMicro - 27 Feb 2012 23:06 - 9813 of 11003

chuckie: I hate to rain on your parade, but I have to say that I've had nothing but grief from generic batteries in all sorts of equipment. Incompatibilities, early failures and so on. While the branded replacements feel like a rip-off, that's all I will buy these days.

Do you have the XP Pro disc? (or just an upgrade copy?)
If you have the disc then it should have a utilities menu (if you go into the contents on the disc) and you should be able to format the hard drive. This will erase any copies already on the hard drive and also any data relating to the computer identity/key for the Windows copy.
If not there are plenty of free formatting software programs which can be downloaded by a friend on to a disc and then used to wipe your hard drive. You should then be able to do a clean install from the Windows disc, but all data will be lost and also all software updates you have done, though these can be easily reloaded from Microsoft.
I am assuming your ordinary XP is not a genuine copy (drivers missing) so there is probably an identity key corruption? Not sure if the XP Pro drivers will automatically load XP Home either. I assume you have tried pressing F8 button on start up to try & boot up in Safe mode?

yes i have the pro disc
but stopped half way through loading

Is there a way in excel to make it open an embedded hyperlink in Chrome as opposed to IE ?

Haystack - 22 Mar 2012 15:22 - 9819 of 11003

I think only if your default browser is Chrome.
