FTSE + FTSE 250 - consider trading (FTSE)

cynic - 20 Oct 2007 12:12

rather than pick out individual stocks to trade, it can often be worthwhile to trade the indices themselves, especially in times of high volatility.

for those so inclined, i attach below charts for FTSE and FTSE 250, though one might equally be tempted to trade Dow or S&P, which is significantly broader in its coverage, or even NASDAQ

for ease of reading, i have attached 1 year and 3 month charts in each instance

5792.8 all FTSE shorts now closed out in profit...

AMER have made a nice profit in previous months, have a single future remaining in this stock. I think Paragon PAG is worth a go at the moment, also Thomas Cook report tomorrow I think so one to watch.

Long @12,920, I've also had a dabble with Thomas Cook.

Closed +10.

Cynic: still raining up here, yes. I gather we're in for an icy blast later this week - best stay where you are, or travel further south!

I saw this posted elsewhere.

I've a small Future in Thomas Cook also. Interesting to see your playing off Dow support, charts suggest the other way currently..

What a pretty map Skinny - it looks promisingly spring-like with those colours! And that pic of the daffodils!

hoping that our cellar is not going to get flooded (sraised water table, rather than horizontal) for the first time in about 25 years ..... reports are that the river is getting dangerously high

I've been worrying about those delicious wines of yours!

Arm off and running, after hitting a multi year high earlier.

Need any help putting your thermals on Toya..... ;)

Toya - 27 Nov 2012 19:57 - 9896 of 21973

Hi BB - I'm much too hot for thermals: just back from an aerobics class! But thanks for the offer :)

Shortie - 28 Nov 2012 11:59 - 9897 of 21973

12930 support taken out yesterday and closed below, next support 12765, looking to short Wall St again today. Can't imagine the beige book on new-home sales will provide much of a distraction.

Toya - 28 Nov 2012 12:10 - 9898 of 21973

Next support at 12830?

I was looking to short too, but not sure from where just yet

Toya - 28 Nov 2012 12:33 - 9899 of 21973

Interesting article on Marketwatch.com:

Carney will regret taking Bank of England reins

Shortie - 28 Nov 2012 12:39 - 9900 of 21973

Interesting your 12830 support Toya, I have disregarded this level being the 23rd November low as no other test proved it to be a true point. I'm also debating where to short from, below 12830 being most likely.

Toya - 28 Nov 2012 12:42 - 9901 of 21973

I'm thinking of setting a short from 12880 - in case it hits that in the next couple of hours

I take your point about the 12830 level

Shortie - 28 Nov 2012 12:49 - 9902 of 21973

Yeah, a small rally on the off is whats got me spooked at the moment, 12880 sounds like a decent plan, although I'm cautious as that would imply a 12900 test followed by a 12913 upper channel resistance test. Also 12830 support on the 23/11, wasn't that an odd trading day (half day after holidays)?..

Toya - 28 Nov 2012 13:42 - 9903 of 21973

You're right about that half day Shortie - I'd forgottent that
