It is an Adobe Flash error. Does it happen with a variety of web sites? If it does then you might try reinstalling flash or trying a different browser. If it is specific to one web site then they probably have an error in some flash on their site.

Thanks H. It seems to happen with a variety sites, so have a look at my Adobe Flash.

TOK

Try a Free install of the Secunia Personal Software Inspector.

See: http://secunia.com/products/consumer/psi/

It can be used to do a full scan of your machine and produce a report (ie. 'Scan Results'). It will detect and can be set to install all and any missing security patches (ie 'Updates') for ALL of your PC's software.

They say:

Secure Browsing

Secure Browsing is without a doubt one of the most important aspects of online security. If your browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc.) or its plugins (Adobe Flash Player, QuickTime, Sun Java, etc.) contain vulnerabilities, then you're exposed to security threats every single time you visit a website.

This page illustrates what you, as a minimum, need to do and be aware of, before launching your browser and heading out on to the World Wide Web:

1) Make sure your browser is up-to-date with the latest security patches
2) Make sure that programs and plugins that are integrated directly with your browser are up-to-date with the latest security patches
3) Verify that your browsers or its plugins don't have known security issues for which no security patches have been released from the vendor (unpatched vulnerabilities)
4) Be careful and vigilant. Don't accept anything - don't ever say "Yes", "Run", or "Install" to anything if you don't know exactly what it is.

Once you can cross off all 4 from this list, you can rest assured that automatic attacks such as drive-by installation of malware through your browser are a thing of the past.

Auto Update

The key benefit to you is that once installed and configured for Auto Update, the Secunia PSI automatically installs the most important patches without further user interaction, thus relieving you from spending time on fetching the patches by yourself, and then manually installing them.

To secure your computer with Auto Update, go to the Secunia PSI "Configuration" section, and ensure that the Auto Update option is checked.

XL Thanks for the Secunia tip. I can vouch for its usefulness as I have it installed already. A useful bit of kit.

Can anyone point me to freeware that may help cleaning up cctv footage - a relation has had their car hit by a hit and run driver. They have cctv footage, but cannot make out the number plate detail.

HARRYCAT - 11 Jun 2012 15:25 - 9917 of 11003

I have cctv at home but it is not ANPR quality and therefore cannot record details such as a car index. When I bought the system the guy said to me that I could buy better quality, but it would come at a very high price. I imagine there is software out there that will clean up and enhance pixels, but free? I would be interested to find out also.

kernow - 11 Jun 2012 17:32 - 9918 of 11003

Surely the quality is in the camera. If the image is crude in terms of resolution then no amount of software magic will improve the info. Silk purse - sows ear.

skinny - 11 Jun 2012 18:31 - 9919 of 11003

Not my area of expertise, but I have two screens on my system - one far superior to the other. My wallpaper - a photograph uploaded from an old early camera phone, is far superior in terms of detail on the better screen.

kimoldfield - 11 Jun 2012 22:48 - 9920 of 11003

Could the police assist, or is it only on something like 'The Bill' that they could tidy up cctv footage?!

skinny - 13 Jun 2012 11:13 - 9921 of 11003

I listen to the radio (BBC) online everyday. Today and yesterday, it sounds like it is slightly slow until after about 5 minutes its as if the vocals are gargling - almost as if there is a buffering problem. Any ideas?

Balerboy - 13 Jun 2012 16:34 - 9922 of 11003

maybe media player needs updating, just a thought.,.

skinny - 13 Jun 2012 16:41 - 9923 of 11003

BB - yes you are probably right as (I've just discovered) its not just the radio - a job for this evening.

skinny - 14 Jun 2012 08:40 - 9924 of 11003

Tried re-installing media player - no change!

John Humphrys sounds like a Vogon!

kimoldfield - 14 Jun 2012 09:02 - 9925 of 11003

Is it 'cos he is Welsh? :o)

skinny - 14 Jun 2012 10:05 - 9926 of 11003

That's not very helpful! Ask Dil :-)

kimoldfield - 14 Jun 2012 11:40 - 9927 of 11003

:o)

kimoldfield - 14 Jun 2012 11:55 - 9928 of 11003

This may, or may not, be of some use skinny.

Thanks Kim - all pretty obvious - something has obviously gone awry as I've been listening to the radio over the net for years.

kimoldfield - 14 Jun 2012 12:15 - 9930 of 11003

Have you tried using a different browser?
