rather than pick out individual stocks to trade, it can often be worthwhile to trade the indices themselves, especially in times of high volatility.

European shares pared losses in afternoon trading on Wednesday after U.S. House Speaker John Boehner said he was optimistic that a deal on the U.S. "fiscal cliff" of tax rises and spending cuts could be reached.

My long on the FTSE @5790 is still holding - although it was a bit wobbly today - expecting a rise from here now

I was doing quite well halfway through all that - and then blew it cos I wasn't keeping my eyes on it... back to the starting grid!

I'm +100 pts at the moment, looking good, currently short 12870, Chaikin now back down. Nice chart below shows the action.
