How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

Anyone playing Ascot?

I have just dutched the field - except the bottom 6 or so - in the 16:55.

The last time I used the dutching function was in an Olympic downhill skiing race and got a slap in the face, so fingers crossed. Looking at about 14% profit if it works out

Pommy - 20 Jun 2006 16:58 - 9943 of 10502

I try to Dutch as often as possible!!!

(my missus is Dutch ;) )

There - that's put my record straight on dutching :-) and it was the 18th runner out of 29 so it only just came within my range.

Reckon I'm going for the over/under 1.5 goals on England tonight. I fancy laying the unders but it's looking a little expensive at 2.74 currently

Fundamentalist - 20 Jun 2006 17:43 - 9947 of 10502

no trading for me tonight - pub and a few pints and a break from the screen

Mr Euro - 21 Jun 2006 13:42 - 9948 of 10502

Afternoon, back again :-)

Had a little tickle last night, not sure what went wrong this time:

100 on England at 2.48

England scored...layed off...

82.35 @ 1.37
18@ 1.36

ended up winning peanuts because of the draw but I intended to green up.

I did what the spreadsheet I have written said:

112 1.36 82.35294118 How much to lay of and profit

And ideas?

Mr Euro - 21 Jun 2006 13:42 - 9949 of 10502

Peter, thanks for mail, have done.

Scripophilist - 21 Jun 2006 15:33 - 9950 of 10502

Manuel, you need to lay more

If you backed 100 @ 2.48
Lay 100 @ 1.37

Then do another lay at (100/1.37) @ 1.37

Or download and use Bet Angel basic which will green up automatically for you.

Having a great time on the footy. The commentator on Portugal/Mexico, a couple of minutes from the end, said "...the Iran/Angola match is running about 4 minutes behind..." so as soon as the whistle went I flipped over and grabbed 20 ticks off the collapse in the under-2.5-goals in a couple of minutes :-))

Mr Euro - 22 Jun 2006 19:37 - 9953 of 10502

I can see a very VERY big bet on Brasil coming on!

Not a great price but even at 1.28 this has to be a cert!

Fundamentalist - 22 Jun 2006 19:50 - 9954 of 10502

Be careful Mr E, certainly check the team sheet before lumping on, effectively no incentive for the brazilians

Mr Euro - 22 Jun 2006 19:56 - 9955 of 10502

thanks. Already have, will see the opening minutes before lumping on. I cashed out yesterday but put some more in for this.

Looking at a 16k bet to win 4,5.

Fundamentalist - 22 Jun 2006 20:16 - 9956 of 10502

looks like theyre relaxed and trying - too skinny for me to lump on but good luck if you have Mr E

Scripophilist - 22 Jun 2006 20:31 - 9957 of 10502

Too skinny for me also no incentive to win.

Fundamentalist - 22 Jun 2006 20:33 - 9958 of 10502
