Three trading statements this month....NEW MEDIA INDUSTRIES (NMI)

ethel - 28 Feb 2005 20:19

Here's an interesting penny share,4.38p.The results were'nt brilliant, but they have got very excited about iPix holdings that they acquired in December 2004.The parent company is American, but NMI have a large range of European "territories" to conquer including the U:K:We are talking about surveillance cameras here. With all the interst in security these days this company seems interesting to me.Their latest project is to install cameras etc.at two operating stations run by Arriva. This is the first installation of its kind in Europe.Have a look at their website and give me some feedback, please. The sp could go to 8p IMHO.www.nmsecurity.comTHANKS...ETHEL

Poverty - 28 Feb 2005 22:48 - 2 of 49

Hi Ethel - You and me both reckon these could visit 8p without too much trouble. I expect more news from them in the not too distant future as well. I think little companies like these are going to have a much better year in 2005 than last year!

ethel - 02 Mar 2005 18:00 - 3 of 49

Well, another rather storming sort of statement again today. They are using these proclamations as a way of getting IPIX noticed.Even with the spread I'm sure you could make a penny on these easily and if there is some news re. a good contract then they could go upto 8p as you suggest.there is a certain amount of resistance at 4p.The management are telling the market that this is the LATEST in video surveillance technology. What's good enough for protecting Bush et al is the best.We need someone tech.minded here who could enlighten us more.Ethel

Poverty - 03 Mar 2005 10:49 - 4 of 49

I don't like all this beating the drum and raising public fear crap - too american for my gentle angry head! However - this share looks interesting to me as they have a huge turnover and actually made a little profit - which I am sure they could improve on.

The mgmnt seems very bullish about their IPIX stuff (sounds like an Apple product!) but at least it means they are pushing it with commitment. These could creep up all throughout this year! I aim to add more on any falls and sit tight.

Don't know about this type of tech - best of luck Ethel. Is your surname Alcohol?

ethel - 03 Mar 2005 18:09 - 5 of 49

Poverty...could well be ,considering a glass or two of wine is my preferred soporific at end of day.....or three or four....or..
Dramatic rise today, then settled down again. It is finding it hard to break through and up.If more of the folks on MAM got into this share, there would be a bit more impetus to push up.Maybe,we are ALL SICK of anything American....simply that??But,we need some video wizz-kid to sort us out on how effective these cameras are compared with the ones in use.If I understand it correctly,NMI can apply this new technology to existing systems.A surveillance upgrade,so to speak? And the application is their own invention I think.
Ethel.

Poverty - 03 Mar 2005 23:42 - 6 of 49

Yes it is having trouble breaking through - but I think it will on volume - of which there has been very little really. Not many peeps know or care about this co yet - I think they will but maybe not this week. It needs a push in Shares mag or IC to get it going really.

I think the IPIX stuff sounds good as far as I can tell - The 360 defree cameras are better than the single directional or normal 'wide' video type camera lens. Part of the deal with this NMI system is the controlling software which is installed off CD etc and updateable fairly easily once up and running - Plus the mega-gigabyte storage of all the footage. I don't know how revolutionary this is - probably not out on its own that much - however it is the whole system they have got working - The camera, the siftware to control it all, plus the huge storage.

I am quite keen on NMI at the mo' - my only concern is their clumsy news releases - they sound a bit too bullish and keen to please!

snakey - 04 Mar 2005 12:47 - 7 of 49

I bought these at 18p a few years ago and just held on basis that they would sink or swim. It looks like they have just learned the doggie paddle and hopefully full freestyle stroke will develope over next 6 months or so. I can then see me money coming back and maybe a little bit of profit???

Poverty - 04 Mar 2005 15:27 - 8 of 49

I really think so - and hope so! You should be rewarded for your patience! Good luck to us all..

deancroft - 04 Mar 2005 16:50 - 9 of 49

Been reading the posts here and hope I can offer some tech info. This equipment is basically IP (Internet Protocol) digital equipment whereas conventional video surveillance of yesteryear with time lapse video is more analogue. Previous equipment required a video cable connection, either multicore or coaxial, between the camera and the recording device. An output on the recording device could supply a copy of the image to a monitored TV. Control of the camera would be via a joystick generally and another multicore cable to control stepper motors on the camera housing for pan and tilt. Recording of the video output was generally via tape and to record longer periods, time lapse recording was/is employed or have the equipment wake up automatically when motion was detected.
With IP equipment, the only connection one requires is a 4pr telephone type cable, currently CAT5 or CAT6 standard used on conventional computer networks. The instructions to the camera are issued via the video software run on a computer. Did you ever wonder how your computer interpreted what data on your internet connection was for e-mail and what data was web traffic?? With IP networks, port numbers are used for segregating the different traffic commands. On conventional internet, port 80 is web traffic, pop3 for e-mail is port 110, SMTP is port 25. All this happens on one assigned IP number which is a series of 4 dotted octets eg.192.168.7.1. Each octet must be in the range of 0-255 which is 256 options and 256 is a binary number. That's a whole lot of number configs. You ask, where the devil is he going with this?? Well, every computer or network device in the world connected to the internet must have a unique IP number, that's how the internet is designed. These network connected IP cameras, with their individual IP addresses located any where in the wide world can be connected to by any computer connected to the internet also anywhere in the world, they can be controlled by any such network connected computer and the data collected by the camera can be stored at any network connected data storage location. The ultimate in inter-operability. If you want more I can bore you to tears but all the above is also available for your home and able to be monitored from your internet connection at work, holiday destination, internet cafe etc.
The technology is not necessarily new but like anything else, find a good application and sell it well makes business.

Poverty - 04 Mar 2005 18:41 - 10 of 49

Good stuff deancroft! It is def a leap from analogue video and I guess brings full digital and IP functionality to that chap called - Sir Veillance!

ethel - 04 Mar 2005 18:46 - 11 of 49

I knew you would come to the rescue,Deancroft...you really know your stuff.Thankyou for your help.
I decided to look back at the rns for NMI this year.I am really not sure about them...one thing is that they lost about a million last year and did'nt seem to make much either. The group suffered from unexpected project delays and postponements, margins were under pressure and investments across the group did'nt mature,to quote their interim statement.I think that most of the problems occurred with their marketing services and with the recently acquired NMI Media. They are involved in a relationship with Vodaphone live, for example."Candyspace" which provides premium content for 3G mobiles. They organise events etc. so you can see how security is one of their main concerns. They spent a long time negotiating the distribution agreement with Nasdaq quoted iPIX inc whose video sec. systems were used last year at the G8 Summit and at the Inauguration of President Bush.In other words, these systems are the BEST,which is what they rammed home to us in their Feb.1st trading statement.Boosted by this exciting introduction to the business, they renamed the two divisions of NMI....NMI Marketing services(which includes NMI Media) and NMI Security. The bits from iPIX have been named iPix international U.K. Ltd and iPix security Ltd.
As you can see,at the moment there seems to be a lot of juggling around of departments within the company. This they assure us is just the beginning of what will be a European expansion of a unique system. We have NOT been informed of the exact terms of the agreement with iPIX inc.
Feb 17 trading statement is to tell us that they have developed their own proprietary technology which enables analogue cameras with iPIX.
They also say that a leading Milanese systems reseller has committed to purchasing a minimum of 50 cameras/DVRs every month for the year...the equivalent of 800,000 per annum.NOW,that sounds pretty good. They also mention 802 Distribution, who have agreed to purchase 240 cameras this year for 240,000 .Sounds even better.Over 1million promised and they have just started with iPIX.
Their final Market Update(and there will be lots more they assure us)points out that the NMI Security team is headed by Paul Lyon, who has HARDENED industry experience. Now we're talking. And to top this off a list of all the partenerships they've signed so far.
It is difficult for me to know whether to invest in this company that appears to have so little cash/earnings yet has a "bragadaccio" about it that is undeniable. If they can convince us that there really will be an income stream from iPIX and this is a unique system that no one else can replicate, then I shall invest in them.
Is their system patented and protected do you think,Deancroft,or is it all a fuss about nothing? Is 1000 per camera a realistic price? The mathematics of the Italian deal(theirs not mine)suggest an even higher retail price.Really we need a bit more info here. What percentage of sales income goes back to iPIX inc etc.Sorry to be so log winded. This could end up being the most boring thread on MAM.Is there a prize for that.A case of wine perhaps???

deancroft - 04 Mar 2005 19:52 - 12 of 49

Ethel
I cannot see how their system can be patented other than the engineering of the hardware. The concept utilises standard IP technology which is a published standard for international use. There are several organisations, some of them private, that manage and engineer the internet strategy so that the whole world can share a standard level of communication. NMI cannot claim any of this privy to themselves. The software obviously would be copyright but it would not prevent another company from writing similar software. I have an IP camera installation at our workplace albeit no way as grand as the equipment of NMI. The software for our system came with the camera, it can show the views from four such cameras on a monitor at the same time, all for less than 150.
With regard to existing camera installations, there are analogue to digital converters for the video stream, I don't know about how to control pan/tilt for the cameras using such converters. If NMI has got this part sorted, this then could be their niche.
Recently on the market is equipment to transmit your CAT5/CAT6 network over your installed power cables e.g domestic ring main in your home. All this camera equipment needs power, the network link could be carried over this power connection thus negating even to install the network cable.
IMO I see this company as not so much bringing technology to the market but bringing existing surveillance concepts up to date using today's modern networking techniques. Many companies are not educated as to what's available on the technology front so if NMI has the presence in the market, can obtain lucrative contracts and be there first, their success will be a measure of their effort.
If anyone wants info on power line carrier for home networking, email me at admin@deancroft.co.uk. Its quite cheap and works well.

ethel - 06 Mar 2005 18:33 - 13 of 49

Thanks again,Deancroft.I think that your point about many companies being unaware of the new digital technology is very important.IF the team at NMI can sell this stuff before anyone else gets into the market then they are going to do better than they did last year(and that's not very hard!!)The brand name is easy for people to remember and the fact that the WHITE HOUSE etc. used this system successfully last year can only help to sell the product.
The cameras are expensive then...they must be special.
I shall keep my eye on their trading updates and buy when the price shifts up a bit from where it has been stuck .Until then,if anyone else knows anything to enlighten us further please join us here.

Has this turned the corner? Positive update reported today and trading statment promised next week.Is this just alot of hot air or could they really be making something of this company? Answers on a postcard please.

ethel - 23 Mar 2005 20:10 - 15 of 49

Hint taken!!
I started this but am still unsure whether there is any real longterm substance here. The trading statement will no doubt reiterate what they have just said today.
The only definite purchases seem to be from Switzerland so far.
However,in 2002 the sp was 26p for a short while, showing how the market valued the share before the new security business which management is all excited about. The market(on a terrible day for small stocks)responded extremely well to the update .
They can't promise a profit till the period ending April 2006.
Let's see what the trading statement reveals.

mistd999 - 21 Apr 2005 13:10 - 16 of 49

Hi, new to this share. Thinking about getting in but unsure why given the recent positive RNS (7/4/05) for NMI Security and expected near term news flow the price hasn't responded. Perhaps not on the bigger radar yet but there seems to be great potential.

Does anyone else have a view on how well other parts of the business are doing?

Attached RNS in case anyone's interested:

NMI Security

This update is to notify the market of a key new relationship, an emerging revenue stream, and to provide an overview of significant product improvements from IPIX.

Foreign & Commonwealth Office

We have started working with the Foreign & Commonwealth Office. This presents a tremendous opportunity for NMI Security, as their remit is to work for UK interests in a 'safe, just and prosperous world', through an overseas network of over 200 diplomatic offices.

We will be reporting more as this relationship evolves, and in the light of our recent VAR agreement, which is designed to allow us to operate in any overseas territory outside the US.

NMI Security DVR

We reported earlier that NMI Security had specified and built a proprietary DVR ( Digital Video Recorder ) that was IPIX enabled. Without re-iterating its unique benefits, a number of major companies are now interested in purchasing this unit in volume, based on its intrinsic benefits. Negotiations are well underway, and we will report in due course as to the scale of contracts.

US Product Update

ISC West is the largest security event in the US, and the forum for releasing new alliances and product developments. IPIX Corporation has embargoed many of these fundamental improvements, until this juncture. They will have an effect on the efficacy of the IPIX platform, and ultimately the ability to deliver comprehensive solutions.

IPIX will be integrating Vistascape surveillance software with CommandView cameras, to provide a high degree of situational awareness and detail. They have also formed an OEM partnership with ObjectVideo, who are leaders in monitoring 'at-risk environments' and threat detection. All this added ' intelligence' will dramatically enhance the quality of solutions the IPIX platform can now offer, and are ideal for current NMI Security clients in Infrastructure, Government & Transportation.

Night Vision

Most importantly IPIX have just released a fundamental improvement to the camera range.

The introduction of 'true' night vision, will be a tremendous boost to many of the contracts we are currently pursuing. 'True' night vision is equipped with Infra-Red, which is activated at low, or designated light levels to produce a perfect black & white image.

This is one of the key product improvements NMI Security has been demanding, and will immediately be available for deployment on key infrastructure and transportation projects.

Paul Nathan, Managing Director of NMI plc commented:

" As NMI Security continues to build its alliances and markets, it is imperative that we have the ability to satisfy the most demanding end user requirements. It is becoming increasingly evident, as we continue to intensify our assault on the security market, that more and more barriers to entry are dissolving, allowing the product to assert itself. "

Hello,glad to see you here.
Since I did my last post NMI really do seem to be getting their act together.Presumably the Foreign Office pays in sterling on time!!!???
However, the punters are not rushing in in droves,so the share is pretty much day traded on news.I suppose you could "put it away for a year" but until I feel more confident I am not investing. If you can day trade then the chart is quite easy to follow.
The RNS's get more confident and keep on coming,so that makes quick trading easier.IMHO

snakey - 22 Apr 2005 02:05 - 18 of 49

The type of clients they are attracting, as you say Ethel, are probably good, prompt payers and if a company can produce for British security and, I believe they are also involved in Israel, they are then good enough to provide security systems for anybody. I think this is a winning outfit, but then again I would say that `cose I`ve held loads of them since I bought at 18p a long time back.
still holding though, and really think they are a useful and potentially very successful company.

doughboy66 - 22 Apr 2005 10:45 - 19 of 49

I did buy a small holding a couple of weeks back ,i don`t expect any overnight miracles but i`m hopefull that in the medium to long term this company will succeed. They are building up a very reputable client base and i`m sure this will only grow in size.

A large trade has gone through today ( for NMI anyway !) I presume this was a buy at 4p ,as its listed as unknown.?

ethel - 25 Apr 2005 15:04 - 21 of 49

Have a look at all the trade shows Croma have booked themselves in for this year.Today's rns.
If NMI goes to these shows as well, they could rustle up lots more clients. Both stocks an interesting punt on security, surveillance etc IMO.
