ukresearch - 01 Feb 2006 09:30 - 2 of 31

a bid from Spain or US. Take your pick. Rumours 700 to 800

stockbunny - 01 Feb 2006 09:40 - 3 of 31

evostik1 - 01 Feb 2006 11:10 - 9 of 31

Kivver - From FT this am...

Spanish banking giant BBVA refused to comment on reports linking it witha bid for Lloyds TSB. Shares in the UK high street bank rose 4 per cent to 530p, taking it to the top of the leaderboard. Rumour suggested that such a bid could be priced at around 700p per share.

Cheers

Evo

Crumbs, see what you all mean up nearly 8% at the mo.

Can only be bid spec. or an actual bid.....at long last.

Kivver - 01 Feb 2006 11:15 - 11 of 31

thanks evo - you know when you get that feeling your invisible. well thanks and now up 8%. Going out for a while will be interesting to see where it is later.

lanayel - 01 Feb 2006 12:40 - 12 of 31

I think that the incredible volume in the shares traded suggests that someone has indeed picked up a big stake this morning.
Unlike the Standard Chartered fireworks a couple of weeks ago (which was down to an Observer article) it looks as though this one is the real deal !!

Kivver - 01 Feb 2006 16:06 - 13 of 31

interesting to see where this one is going. buys and sells about equal at the moment.

boxerdog - 01 Feb 2006 17:46 - 14 of 31

kivver or any-one,when does LLOY.go ex-dividend.

lanayel - 08 Feb 2006 11:22 - 15 of 31

The markets dismissed the takeover theory last week.
So how do they explain all the action this morning.

'Buying for the dividend' my arse !!!!

stockbunny - 08 Feb 2006 11:28 - 16 of 31

LLOY haven't reported yet so it wont be going ex-div for a while - think both happen in late in Feb.

Kivver - 08 Feb 2006 11:52 - 17 of 31

why wouldnt people buy for a good dividend????? lots of talk of a takeover, solid industry (not as if its going to dive).

Went ex-div on the 16th March in 05.

stockbunny - 08 Feb 2006 12:07 - 18 of 31

well possibly not at these prices, that's the only thing Kivver.....

Kivver - 08 Feb 2006 12:16 - 19 of 31

hi stockbunny, do you think a PE of around 10 is excessive then???

stockbunny - 08 Feb 2006 12:26 - 20 of 31

Kivver, my only point is that if you are buying for a divi and you have the option at buying at a price that is rapidly rising or at a steadier price, it is quite possible that the attraction of the steadier price would be greater.

Kivver - 08 Feb 2006 12:30 - 21 of 31

fully agree with you bunny, i suppose we might see the times frames differently. If I was going to buy a share for a dividend i would buy 2 or 3 months in advance it wouldnt suprise me with some if they would leave it much later, so perhaps this is the steadier price. Im sure the action will speed up before/after results and ex-div date.
