Alternatively, it could be a good idea to look at the company fundamentals, research the business, consider what's changed since 2007, think about whether that growth is fairly reflected in the price, check the current net asset value, examine it's exploration prospects for this year, take into consideration its cashflow has doubled in the last 12 months then run a sliderule over what cash generation is likely to be in 2012 to 2013, check the 2p and 2c development pipeline, try to work out the likely impact on share value of a company targetting quadruple bbpd exit rates by 2017...... in fact, do all those things this article doesn't even begin to do.

the mail article makes no difference to my opinion on afr which is buy - i was just saying expected red as the article suggested selling here - some of the herd were bound to follow that advice

The markets still remain unconvinced it seems even with a M/C of just 1.8bn. Its on days like today when the 250 is 170 odd points up that we should be shining, that is considering we dropped 7p one day this week when the market dropped only 60pts.
I'm amazed that the FTSE. continues to defy logic and appears unstoppable, my fear is it can't last and when coming down to earth with a bang brings AFR. down with a crash.
Expectant news on the Keta spudding and apraisal will help of course, thats if its positive. Time will reveal all.

Former Shell man joins Afren

Patrick Obath, who spent 20 years in a variety of positions with Shell, is joining Afren as a non-executive director.

He is currently Chairman of PZ Cussons EA and is a non-executive director at Standard Chartered Bank Kenya and Kenya Power and Lighting Company.

Afren today announces that Eni Ghana exploration and production Ltd. ("Eni"), operator of the Keta block which is located in the Volta River Basin offshore Eastern Ghana, has commenced drilling of the Nunya-1X (formerly named Cuda-2) exploration well with the Marianas semi-submersible drilling rig. The Nunya prospect is a four-way dip closed structure with a primary reservoir target comprising Upper Cretaceous deep-marine fan sandstones that are analogous to those that have yielded significant discoveries elsewhere along the West Africa Transform Margin.

Following the farm out in 2011 of a 35 per cent participating interest in the Keta block and transfer of operatorship to Eni, Afren has a 35 per cent participating interest in the block.
