FTSE + FTSE 250 - consider trading (FTSE)

cynic - 20 Oct 2007 12:12

rather than pick out individual stocks to trade, it can often be worthwhile to trade the indices themselves, especially in times of high volatility.

for those so inclined, i attach below charts for FTSE and FTSE 250, though one might equally be tempted to trade Dow or S&P, which is significantly broader in its coverage, or even NASDAQ

for ease of reading, i have attached 1 year and 3 month charts in each instance

cynic - 04 Oct 2016 08:53 - 21006 of 21973

DAX
having trouble breaking 10,580 barrier ..... if it sneaks towards it again and you are alert, may be a time to short

jimmy b - 04 Oct 2016 09:11 - 21007 of 21973

Close FTSE short yesterday ,ended up a 12 point loss from being in front , opened again just now , can't keep going up forever .

jimmy b - 04 Oct 2016 12:50 - 21008 of 21973

It will go down... the macro economy is not healthy.

Claret Dragon - 04 Oct 2016 16:53 - 21011 of 21973

I believe the EU will be the catalyst to give markets a shock. There Banks are on same trajectory as UK circa 2007

Just my thoughts as a regular to Deutschland and beyond

Chris Carson - 04 Oct 2016 18:28 - 21012 of 21973

Looks like normal service has resumed. Ftse listening to the Dow (for now) anyway.

hlyeo98 - 06 Oct 2016 11:09 - 21013 of 21973

Going to drop below 7000 soon.

jimmy b - 06 Oct 2016 11:14 - 21014 of 21973

My shorts doing well now .

cynic - 06 Oct 2016 15:59 - 21015 of 21973

there is certainly a lot of money to be made given the markets' current volatility, but you need to be "in the rhythm" and have nimble fingers and an alert brain to succeed

i'm travelling a bit at the moment, so have no chance :-)

hlyeo98 - 06 Oct 2016 17:55 - 21016 of 21973

Finished the day below 7000.

cynic - 06 Oct 2016 17:59 - 21017 of 21973

really?
suggest re-check as currently 7017 and only +5 after hours

markets are assuredly in very uncertain mood at the moment

Claret Dragon - 07 Oct 2016 16:59 - 21018 of 21973

US selling off today after Jobs numbers.

cynic - 10 Oct 2016 12:45 - 21019 of 21973

JD. (JD Sports)
surprised there's no thread on here for this one, not least because as the chart shows, it has been a phenomenal performer

however one does need to wonder whether their profits are going to take a nasty bashing as the collapsing £ takes its toll

The FTSE rally is a product of currency devaluation, not an improving economy – it is an optical illusion.
