FTSE + FTSE 250 - consider trading (FTSE)

cynic - 20 Oct 2007 12:12

rather than pick out individual stocks to trade, it can often be worthwhile to trade the indices themselves, especially in times of high volatility.

for those so inclined, i attach below charts for FTSE and FTSE 250, though one might equally be tempted to trade Dow or S&P, which is significantly broader in its coverage, or even NASDAQ

for ease of reading, i have attached 1 year and 3 month charts in each instance

So could any supplier to Apple. Seems they are trying to take more control over their supply chain. Dialog badly hit today....along with Imagination last week.

DOW + DAX
have taken new short positions in both - 20,554 and 12,089 respectively

got my call wrong, at least for now .... hey ho :-)

cynic - 12 Apr 2017 16:47 - 21347 of 21973

DOW + DAX
what volatile markets these are
if you have the rhythm and the time and inclination to concentrate, there's assuredly a lot of money to be made

meanwhile, my shorts from yesterday are now looking far less sickly

cynic - 17 Apr 2017 19:06 - 21348 of 21973

strong day (monday) on wall street, so logic says DAX should follow suit in the morning
have therefore (bravely) just opened a long at 12,130 while leaving my short position open

HARRYCAT - 18 Apr 2017 10:58 - 21349 of 21973

Not sure what the PM is going to say, but markets might move against you if it is hugely important.

cynic - 18 Apr 2017 15:08 - 21350 of 21973

closed Dow long first thing this morning for a modest profit, but left Dax long to run, for most of it is counter-balanced by an existing short

cynic - 18 Apr 2017 15:57 - 21351 of 21973

small DOW long just opened at 20,537 as 20,500 looks to be holding well ....... no doubt it will prove to be a mug's punt :-)

Fred1new - 18 Apr 2017 17:09 - 21352 of 21973

I will send you a spoon.

8-)

cynic - 19 Apr 2017 08:36 - 21353 of 21973

only just logged on to see your latest ..... you're too kind :-)

actually, it's now not far out of the money, though i guess the timing could have been better yesterday

cynic - 24 Apr 2017 08:14 - 21354 of 21973

banked very juicy DAX long profit at 12,284 albeit that with hindisght, it was premature

still (ruefully) have very small Dax short running, but more than counterbalanced by the above

cynic - 24 Apr 2017 09:00 - 21356 of 21973

i agree - totally nuts as even the Sunday trading indices were well ahead

Sequestor - 24 Apr 2017 09:46 - 21357 of 21973

OR

FTSE flies higher on France vote result relief

hahahahahahahah

cynic - 24 Apr 2017 15:25 - 21358 of 21973

EUPHORIA
markets are very unpredictable and that needs to be borne in mind

it is by no mean certain that macron will indeed be the next french president, though i accept it is the most likely result

even then, there will be all sorts of horse trading to determine who will be the next pm and what coalition will emerge to run the country

cynic - 25 Apr 2017 17:20 - 21359 of 21973

DOW
all-time closing high is 21,095 and now only 80/90 points below that
pays yer money, takes yer choice

cynic - 28 Apr 2017 08:29 - 21360 of 21973

looks like another boring day as we head into w/e

happy to see both DOW and DAX dropping, though i'ld like to see DAX more enthusiastic in that respect
