FTSE + FTSE 250 - consider trading (FTSE)

cynic - 20 Oct 2007 12:12

rather than pick out individual stocks to trade, it can often be worthwhile to trade the indices themselves, especially in times of high volatility.

for those so inclined, i attach below charts for FTSE and FTSE 250, though one might equally be tempted to trade Dow or S&P, which is significantly broader in its coverage, or even NASDAQ

for ease of reading, i have attached 1 year and 3 month charts in each instance

DOW - serves me right .... should have banked an ok profit yesterday when it was on the table .... never mind; i'll just sit tight

I am waiting. I feel like the FTSE/Dow gap is too large. Either FTSE needs to go up or Dow needs to fall.

I'm looking for a FTSE long with something beginning 71

what a truly nasty end to last night - complete collapse - with the inevitable follow through this morning

I'm long FTSE 7216. I think this is overdone in the UK and it will claw it's way back up.

I expect the dirty bottom fishers to come back out on the Dow

cynic - 22 Feb 2018 15:57 - 21668 of 21973

DOW
having foolishly opened a new long last night at 25,025, it looked rthat i was going to take quite a battering by the time london opned this morning

there has now been a miraculiur turnaround and i am just back in th money ...... i shall not get greedy, but be happy to bank something modest and heave a sigh of relief

CC - 22 Feb 2018 16:17 - 21669 of 21973

I know how you feel Cynic. been there so many times myself.

I've just closed my FTSE long for 23 pts. My entry wasn't great and whilst I feel this may run a little higher into our close I'm happy to take my money and reload when the chance comes along.

I can't say I'm tuned into this today. My other day-trading has been pretty poor as well today but I was on the right side so overall a profit.

cynic - 22 Feb 2018 16:46 - 21670 of 21973

now out of that at 25,082 (whew!)

hilary - 22 Feb 2018 17:00 - 21671 of 21973

I'm looking for potential FTSE upside to the 7469 level or thereabouts over the next couple of weeks.

cynic - 23 Feb 2018 14:36 - 21672 of 21973

:-)
jolly little in/out flutter long DOW for 50 point profit

cynic - 26 Feb 2018 19:54 - 21673 of 21973

DOW + DAX
DOW is roaring ahead yet again and pulling DAX through 12,550 along the way
will DAX hold that level overnight? .... if so, that could be the place to be (I already am)

cynic - 27 Feb 2018 08:40 - 21674 of 21973

DAX
a very disappointing start having been (cash) well through 12,550 last night but has now retreated to just south of that

Claret Dragon - 28 Feb 2018 06:53 - 21675 of 21973

cynic - 28 Feb 2018 20:06 - 21677 of 21973

all looking a bit ugly for tomorrow
DOW opened strongly but is now looking very sickly once more - down 150

Claret Dragon - 28 Feb 2018 20:27 - 21678 of 21973

Still going south

cynic - 28 Feb 2018 20:50 - 21679 of 21973

20:50 DOW almost certain to close down >300

Claret Dragon - 28 Feb 2018 20:51 - 21680 of 21973
