How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

Am now 'greened up' on Strictly Come Dancing. My best winner would be Julian Clary, followed by Jill Halfpenny, Denise Lewis and with a small return if Aled Jones wins.

I see the Glomtc course shows as a sponsored site if you search for betting exchange on google

Bones - 27 Nov 2004 21:57 - 203 of 10502

Can someone explain why it takes a full minute for the Betfair website to download when every other site takes a couple of seconds? Bear it in mind if you are logging on to close a bet with time running out :)

Kayak - 27 Nov 2004 22:35 - 204 of 10502

The new betfair site is quite complicated stuff Bones, with a lot to download. It only takes a few seconds here mind you. If you've got a decent amount of memory on the system (>256Mb) and a good ISP all you can do is wait.

Bones - 27 Nov 2004 22:58 - 205 of 10502

Kayak. Thanks. Like I say, most sites take 3 or 4 seconds whereas it is nearly a minute for all the features on Betfair to arrive. Still, as you say, maybe there is good reason.......!

PS I have 512mb and AOL as ISP

czechmate - 28 Nov 2004 09:27 - 206 of 10502

Sorry, all, this is off topic - Bones, just tried to send e-mail to you, but immediately returned. Have you changed address?

Bones - 28 Nov 2004 12:52 - 207 of 10502

Czechmate - so nice to hear from you! You can send an email via Moneyam as my address is on the system. Just click on "Bones". Your email isn't on the system so I don't have an option to send an email via Moneyam when I click on your username. Look forward to hearing from you!

Dont often post on the threads but thought Id state how brilliant I thought the course was last Friday. Thanks very much Peter (Scrip), your enthusiasm and willingness to share your knowledge was evident throughout the very long day.

Over the weekend, already up around 8% on my bank just by focusing on the horses alone and havent even got round to the football yet! Roll-on this afternoons races, just have to work out how to balance it with the day-trading now!

Scripophilist - 29 Nov 2004 12:23 - 209 of 10502

Glad to hear you all got value from the course, I had the feeling you would! Thanks for the comments.

You should be off to an excellent start on the horses this afternoon.

12:20 @ Newc has thrown up a big drifter immediately (22 ticks) and an odds on favourite in the next race should give a few opportunities.

Scripophilist - 29 Nov 2004 12:25 - 210 of 10502

Remember, try not to look at your P&L till the end of the day. Just focus on each event as it comes and switch from one to another the instant your bet is over.

Leeds vs Rotherham has a nice 10K+ bet gradually moving the Leeds price up in my favour :-)

Scripophilist - 29 Nov 2004 20:49 - 212 of 10502

There seem to be lots of people laying 0-0 on this one. I thought leeds would get off to a good start which they have but no goals yet.

DocProc - 30 Nov 2004 18:56 - 213 of 10502

So how are you budding experts, who attended Scrip's recent course, doing?

:-)

Also, just out of interest, is anyone else betting 'just for fun' on 'I'm a Celebrity GMOOH'?

As yet, I've limited my view of things to just the following three players, who are the three favourites - and I've greened up on them. Actually, Joe Pasquale is a clear favourite with the others good second favourites. As I type:

Jo Pasquale: B 1.38/ L 1.4

Janet Street Porter: B 11.0/ L 12.0
Paul Burrell: B 9.2/L 10.0

then come

Fran Cosgrave: 38/46
Sophie Anderton: 32/40

Now I haven't bothered including these last two in my betting, although I did personally consider Sophie a more likely winner than Fran and I am ignoring the other outsiders completely.

Doc

Have now done 3 days using scrips theories. Started with a pot of 100 which i have managed to turn into 191 !!!!! Made a couple of quite big mistakes which i got away with but in the main it is starting to work for me. If im still happy with my trading in a few weeks i am going to increase my pot to 1000. I am still doing it manually until i get some of the software scrip demonstrated which should make life even easier.

Good to see you greened up on iacgmooh

Scripophilist - 30 Nov 2004 22:00 - 215 of 10502

From my inbox and phone it looks like we are off to a good start so well done to those that have been out there and active. I had a record day on Monday so its even done me some good. Was on the Chelsea, Fulham match tonight and will send an email around tomorrow to explain tactics.

jeffmack - 30 Nov 2004 22:04 - 216 of 10502

Script
Are you running a course in London

DocProc - 30 Nov 2004 22:16 - 217 of 10502

....or even a bit further North of London, like, eg, Northampton?

:-)

Fundamentalist - 30 Nov 2004 23:16 - 218 of 10502

Scrip - managed to scalp a few points on the chelsea game and even managed to scalp on the live greyhounds - scalping was very easy on this with volatile prices and enough weight of money (for my stakes anyway) as it was on tv

Scripophilist - 30 Nov 2004 23:27 - 219 of 10502

Was there much volume on the dogs, haven't looked at them for some time.

Harlosh - 01 Dec 2004 05:02 - 220 of 10502

What a day's sport ahead today.
Racing from 12nn to 18.20 and a host of football matches.

Must give the wife a fiver ( ok a tenner) and tell her to go and get the xmas shopping.

Leaves me in peace to practice.
