Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).
Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.
cheers GF.

I find the small shops often run by Asians are excellent. The standard of service is higher than shops run by indigenous owners. They are more polite, happier to get things that you request. I have generally found English people lazy, rude and give the impression that they are doing us a favour letting us in their shops.

problem with tesco is that its heritage is 100% jewish
worse still, jack cohen was of polish extraction and his wife of russian-jewish extraction
bless my soul! ..... they only came over (must have been illegals) at the turn of 20th century .... and what's this? ..... jack cohen was knighted????? .... surely not!!!??? ..... must have been by some bribed and crooked conservative pm ...... well no; actually it was matey harold of pipe and ganex mackintosh fame

john lewis (waitrose of course) is pretty spotty too, for he came from an unfairly privileged background (educated at westminster) and his wife was pretty hoity-toity too having graduated from oxford

Cynic,
Don't have to.
So there.
Besides I chew cloves.
Hays,
Perhaps that is because the don't understand you!
Or perhaps they do.

--------------
I must admit I use Asian supermarkets frequently for spices, vegetables, nuts, dry lentils and pulses and service is friendly and helpful and generally fresher and cheaper than the equivalent.
Also, occasionally buy mutton for curries from them.
-----
PS.
For Manuel who probably already does, I pressure cooked chickpeas and large beans (red, borlotti, white etc. Aduluki check at 4-5mins ) which have been soaked overnight, for about 20mins and 10mins.
Allowing to cool under pressure and then freeze in usable quantities in the freezer. (Check, whether they are cooked, considerable variation, even after soaking.)
They keep their consistency, and there is no need to unfreeze them, unless using for salads.
Check pressure and timing.

absolutely fred, though i don't use a pressure cooker
aduluki??? .... or do you mean aduki (aka adzuki) beans? ...... they make for a very good vegetarian hamburger base
if you're into that sort of thing, red lentils make excellent dal and need no soaking ..... add tinned tomatoes, fresh chilli and ginger and perhaps some fried-off onion
haricots are of course great for making your own baked beans .... recipe on request, but not remotely difficult

Don't forget M&S. That's very Jewish.
I used to do IT consultancy at Tesco head office at Cheshunt in the early 1970s. Jack Cohen came round at Christmas with a trolley of goodies with chocolates, bottles of scotch etc. He went up to every employee at their desk and gave them a choice of present and thanked them personally for their year's work.

didn't he pick their pockets at the same time, merely out of habit and to keep his hand in, so to speak?

Aduki, don't use them very often.
I used various lentils, but if I am going to use the next day I soak them, my wife doesn't, but there again she uses canned tomatoes, I tend not to, but do use a little passata and puree.
Student food was when we put a smoked ham hock in the pot, with the fried onion and garlic and thyme or oregano.

Have just picked and washed some sorrel and a small amount of lovage and attempting to make a soup with potatoes, creme fraiche and a bunch of chives and a scraping of nutmeg.
Never attempted this before. I hope I see the dawn.

Hays, you do know that SALE OR RETURN is an illegal practice?.
Often the returns instead of being binned or burnt end up in some asian shops...... not all but a fair %.
As for comparing with the indigi pop shop keepers, sorry isnt possible around here.
Dont have anything other than asian takeaways and off licences. Thank god I live on the outskirts.
Worked for Tesco W YORKSHIRE personnel office as administrator after college and weekends .......Jack Cohen met him twice...... big bugger, wrinkled roundish beaming face. Seemed a powerful chap.

Always had to face them up(stock) in Tesco, other supermarkets faced stock down.
Think this came direcly from Cohen himself.

Sir Alex Ferguson is going to retire at the end of the season
Sir Alex Ferguson will step down as Manchester United manager at the end of the season after 26 years in charge.
The Scot, 71, has won 38 trophies since taking over from Ron Atkinson on 6 November 1986, including this season's Premier League title.
His haul includes 13 titles, two Champions League crowns, five FA Cups and five League Cups.
"The decision to retire is one that I have thought a great deal about. It is the right time," Ferguson said.
"It was important to me to leave an organisation in the strongest possible shape and I believe I have done so.

Interesting move by Russia.
On February 4th, 2013, Vladimir Putin, the Russian president, addressed the Duma, (Russian Parliament), and gave a speech about the tensions with minorities in Russia:
"In Russia live Russians. Any minority, from anywhere, if it wants to live in Russia, to work and eat in Russia, should speak Russian, and should respect the Russian laws. If they prefer Sharia Law, then we advise them to go to those places where that's the state law. Russia does not need minorities. Minorities need Russia, and we will not grant them special privileges, or try to change our laws to fit their desires, no matter how loud they yell 'discrimination'. We better learn from the suicides of America, England, Holland and France, if we are to survive as a nation. The Russian customs and traditions AR e not compatible with the lack of culture or the primitive ways of most minorities. When this honorable legislative body thinks of creating new laws, it should have in mind the national interest first, observing that the minorities are not Russians.
The politicians in the Duma gave Putin a standing ovation for five minutes.

Shocked to see Fergie retiring.
3 years left on the box at OT.
If we get that portugese little numpty I and the lads will be re- selling the box.
We dont want defensive football.
Hope Moyes gets the job, I know Sir Bobby favours him.
