Referendum : to be in Europe or not to be ?, that is the question ! (REF)

required field - 03 Feb 2016 10:00

Thought I'd start a new thread as this is going to be a major talking point this year...have not made up my mind yet...(unlike bucksfizz)....but thinking of voting for an exit as Europe is not doing Britain any good at all it seems....

Fred1new - 31 May 2016 09:44 - 2561 of 12628

Even Dumbos grow up!

jimmy b - 31 May 2016 09:45 - 2562 of 12628

No he's another lying little creep.

cynic - 31 May 2016 09:54 - 2563 of 12628

corbyn is mean to be a LEADER, which he is clearly failing to do

jimmy b - 31 May 2016 10:00 - 2564 of 12628

Blair on Andrew Marr Sunday ,another liar ,actually denying he wanted to join the Euro.

cynic - 31 May 2016 10:03 - 2565 of 12628

BREXIT
uncontrolled immigration is most assuredly a problem, and even more more so in joe public's eyes
it is clearly this that is influencing the polls
however, even if we do vote "out", i think the reality of being able to control immigration will prove to be something of an illusion

that said, no one has yet managed to explain away satisfactorily the massive discrepancy between the number of reported immigrants and the far greater number of NIC numbers issued, which will then entitle the holder to claim benefits

jimmy b - 31 May 2016 10:07 - 2566 of 12628

The wealthy leaders of Remain will never know the devastating effect EU immigration has on ordinary people.

cynic - 31 May 2016 10:13 - 2567 of 12628

that is the sort of article one would expect from the Mirror
that really is gutter journalism

iturama - 31 May 2016 10:13 - 2568 of 12628

"no one has yet managed to explain away satisfactorily the massive discrepancy between the number of reported immigrants and the far greater number of NIC numbers issued, which will then entitle the holder to claim benefits"

No one wants to be the one doing the explanation. Particularly before the referendum. The immigration numbers are vastly under-disclosed. Every one knows that but the government is gutless. You have to add to those numbers the illegals and dependents under the age of 16.

cynic - 31 May 2016 10:17 - 2569 of 12628

one-sided ..... so why have not the brexiteers jumped up and down about it?

incidentally, it's dependAnts in this context

jimmy b - 31 May 2016 10:21 - 2570 of 12628

Except it's from The Telegraph cynic :)

cynic - 31 May 2016 10:25 - 2571 of 12628

yes i know so .... i think it came out a few days ago
didn't bother to read

iturama - 31 May 2016 11:13 - 2572 of 12628

quite right, at least for those of a certain age. However the variant dependent is now standard and as common as dependant in the Oxford English Corpus. In US English, dependent is the standard form of the noun. :)
Since I have been focused on North and South America for years now, I must admit that my language is US biased. It has taken me a while to refer to my phone as a mobile and not a cellphone, particularly as the latin languages also use the term celular.

Chris Grayling giving an out speech on Sky and the picture froze so they switched to a remainder nutter. More government interference?? :-)

cynic - 31 May 2016 11:21 - 2573 of 12628

yanks have never understood proper english
"z" for "s" drives me nuts!

iturama - 31 May 2016 11:40 - 2574 of 12628

If you ever watched Morse, he was always correcting Lewis for using an s instead of a z. Realize is phonetically more correct than realise. But these days, many words are inter-changeable. One word I always find odd in the US is buoy. We pronounce boy while in the US it is booey. We have the u silent while they have the o silent.

cynic - 31 May 2016 11:41 - 2575 of 12628

like "massoosse" instead of masseuse

eraser instead of rubber :-)

perhaps they'll introduce "ov" for "of"

Claret Dragon - 31 May 2016 12:54 - 2576 of 12628

William Hill bookmakers this morning indicated that +85% of referendum bets over the long weekend was for ‘leave’ and this has required them to shorten their ‘leave’ odds.

grannyboy - 31 May 2016 13:10 - 2577 of 12628

'Dave's' going into the oil business after he gets kick out...He's planning
to start selling some of the snake oil that he's become famous for.

It'll be of benefit for the general population in the event that the referendum
result is to remain..As a lubricant to ease the pain from having our pants pulled down and given a good rogering.

jimmy b - 31 May 2016 13:14 - 2578 of 12628

Actually you'v got that wrong ,Dave couldn't sell anything !he couldn't sell you £50 notes for a fiver , he's about the worse salesman i have ever listened to. Nothing he says is believable .

Haystack - 31 May 2016 13:40 - 2579 of 12628

William Hill are currently offering 1/5 IN and 7/2 OUT. So that is way ahead for remain.

grannyboy - 31 May 2016 14:20 - 2580 of 12628

I don't give a sh** about bookies odds..

The odds could be being manipulated by the moneymen to give the
impression of remaining inevitable.
