How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

See it is now odds on a majority of 1-60, though the odds of no overall majority have tumbled from around 40 to 7.2

Stayed up quite a while but not enough money really to trade big volume. Eventually feel asleep in bed with my Laptop which shut down around 2:15am this morning.

Not sure whether it went through as using it for the first time?

After Howards resignation, the market is on betfair for the next tory leader.

I cannot believe that 14.0 has been matched on William Hague!!!!!!!

Man U - 1.33 to beat West Brom? Odds look a little skinny for this?

OK there is a huge gulf in class but West Brom are fighting for their lives. The will come out fighting and I guess Man U will sit there soak up the pressure before looking to come out. Surely an opportunity for a lay then maybe a chance to buy back.

On the other side of the coin I would have thought Chelsea would want to win in style against Charlton.

Fundamentalist - 07 May 2005 11:50 - 2568 of 10502

Scrip

On the evidence of the arsenal v west brom game last week, west brom will come out very quick and chase everything. They defended quite well but lacked quality up front. Wouldnt shock me to see Man U struggle and i certainly wouldnt be a backer at 1.33. In the arsenal game, arsenal were approx 1.7 before kick off - i know they were away - but i cant believe man utd are half the price just for being at home

With regards to Chelsea, they will want to put on a show and have probably Charlton are ideal opposition at this time of the season - nothing to play for and in freefall - the only concern will be have they got over the disappointment of tuesday and will they score goals?

Have to admit i looked at the ACCA on the two and was tempted to lay at 1.7

Scripophilist - 07 May 2005 12:45 - 2569 of 10502

All green on Chelsea

Fundamentalist - 07 May 2005 12:57 - 2570 of 10502

Lay to back scrip?

Scripophilist - 07 May 2005 12:59 - 2571 of 10502

I took a position before the off and the odds moved quite quickly in my favour so I took it. Will use the money in play.

Scripophilist - 07 May 2005 13:24 - 2572 of 10502

The odds on Charlton will begin to drift shortly after the second half starts. If you fancy a punt laying Charlton at these odds probably represents an opportunity.

Scripophilist - 07 May 2005 14:01 - 2573 of 10502

Going well. Considering lumping some spare capital on Chelsea now.

Scripophilist - 07 May 2005 14:03 - 2574 of 10502

BTW, I ain't going to predict the Southampton match!

Scripophilist - 07 May 2005 14:20 - 2575 of 10502

Traded on the draw and finished the match. That will probably be it for today on the footy as I'll be listening to the Southampton match. Will be on the horse, good volume today.

Fundamentalist - 07 May 2005 14:20 - 2576 of 10502

I see the ref wanted to be part of the celebrations

Scripophilist - 07 May 2005 14:22 - 2577 of 10502

LOL!

There's the winner, a bit late coming.

Scripophilist - 07 May 2005 14:34 - 2578 of 10502

Somebody keeps taking out the draw on Palace vs Southampton by laying it. Worth keeping an eye on. Not much volume but this person keeps taking everything out. Must be on a mission.

Fundamentalist - 07 May 2005 14:42 - 2579 of 10502

How pretentious is the presentation ceremony - introducing all the back room staff one by one - Terry will get the cup just before it gets dark lol

Scripophilist - 07 May 2005 14:44 - 2580 of 10502

I wouldn't know what jealously feels like Steve, I'm pretty good at praying though.
