THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

Excellent idea Fred, I used it on my squeaky front door and it worked a treat. It does what it says on the tin.

Are you using Firefox as your browser? If so, in the search box there's a little down arrow. Click that, then all the search options will come up. At the bottom it says 'manage search engines'. If you click that, then the list of options comes up. Move Google up to the top, then remove any you don't want, and click OK. That should sort it.

I am not aware that I have Firefox - I have Norton - just searched my programmes and not got Firefox. I am on Windows 7 if that is of any help. Thank you.

Monkies always bite!

3 monkies - 07 Jun 2013 17:30 - 25865 of 81564

Ha! ha! ha! Not this one - when a child I bit my Sister and my Father bit me and never again, I just bark now. Lesson learned at a very early age.

Haystack - 07 Jun 2013 17:33 - 25866 of 81564

Hate Norton! It slows up your PC.

Somewhere in tools there is a section on default search engine. I can't help more than that at present as I am on a tablet. I haven't booted up my PC for about a week.

Was it you that lived near Quendon?

3 monkies - 07 Jun 2013 17:36 - 25868 of 81564

Okay Haystack thanks - just think it will be easier to go to PC shop as I am trying everything to no avail. Have a good weekend.

No Haystack I live in a little sleepy village in Lancashire. Not so sleepy it is a main road from A to B and the traffic gets worse but hey ho., there were only about 2 cars in the village when I was small.

I'm sorry, I'm a bit confused now! I think you're probably using Internet Explorer. Top right, click on the little cogwheel, there may be options in there that you can use, (manage add ons / search providers?) but I'm not familiar with the program so can't really help.

hilary - 07 Jun 2013 17:43 - 25871 of 81564

3m,

Windows 7 is your operating system.
Norton will be your AV software and/or your firewall.
Firefox would be your web browser (if you had it).

Those 3 things all do different jobs.

If it's not Firefox, your web browser would most likely be either Internet Explorer, Chrome or (slim chance) Opera. If you say which browser you use, somebody here will be able to tell you how to reset your default search engine for the browser you use.

Thanks you Seymour Clearly for trying to help, have done that but am seriously confused now so PC shop it is tomorrow.

Thank you.

hilary - 07 Jun 2013 18:01 - 25875 of 81564

3m,

I don't know which version of IE you are using, but the solution is probably the same regardless.

Click here and then hit the fourth option which says 'To change the default search provider'.

dreamcatcher - 07 Jun 2013 18:03 - 25876 of 81564

I live near Quendon Hayes. Has it disappeared or have the women of the Ugley womens institute become beautiful. :-))

Haystack - 07 Jun 2013 18:08 - 25877 of 81564

Have you been to Auddley End House nr Saffron Walden?

dreamcatcher - 07 Jun 2013 18:11 - 25878 of 81564

Passed it last week going to Scotsdale garden centre Camb. Never visited it. Well worth a visit I hear from one of my brothers. You sound a bit old for the train ride.:-))

3 monkies - 07 Jun 2013 18:19 - 25879 of 81564

Thanks Hilary have followed instructions and it didn't work so seriously I have given up for tonight.

DC what a thing to say to Haystack - one is never too old to ride a train - Charlie Chaplain rode or so they say until a very late age - ha! ha! may be it wasn't a train. Won't elaborate any further. Have a good weekend all and enjoy the glorious weather and many thanks again to all who have tried to help this geriatric!!!!!
