When i insert a CD I am unable to see any file names (all files selected) i have a DVD and a CD drive in the PC and it is the same on both drives and i have tried known good CD's
Any thoughts ?

Perhaps you are only looking for particular file types?

For instance, if you are looking for '.xls' file types, then you wouldn't see any of those either, would you? Your list would be blank.

Have what sort of wireless clients are you using?
Do they all support 802.11g or have you got some old ones that only use 801.11b?

NickB - 10 Mar 2005 12:47 - 3065 of 11003

DOC
I believe i have 'all files selected' but have tried others, i just get nothing but the disk name and total size.

Iain - 10 Mar 2005 12:48 - 3066 of 11003

Can't help you; but I did find this web site:

NickB, is this a music CD? if so you wont be able to see the music, you might see some tracke headers but they will just be small shortcuts. Music CD's are not just data in computer terms.

If your bought the adaptor for your computer at the same time as your router then I assume it supports 802.11g in which case you should use WPA security as it is stronger than WEP.

You seem to have two computers, one connected to the router by wireless and one by a cable.

Go to the machine that is connected by cable. This is because you will interupt the wireless network when you enable security.

Log on to your router configurator and select Wireless.
Select WPA as the security.
Select either the PSK Hex or PSK String option ond decide on your security key. Make it as random as possible and as long as allowed. Save the key in a text file and transfer this to your wireless connected computer before you enter it in the router.
Copy the key from your text file and paste into router config box. Then click apply.

You will then have to go to your wireless computer, open the wirless properties, set the security to WPS-PSK and paste in your security key. Hopefully, your wireless network will then connect.

Best of luck.

Thanks.Ill give it a go

Iain - 10 Mar 2005 15:47 - 3076 of 11003

The Other Machines only give me a WEP Security option.
Changed it WPA on master Computer. But other 2 comps still connect ok with old wep security numbers in

Optimist - 10 Mar 2005 16:13 - 3077 of 11003

Iain

In that case you are stuck with WEP.

In the router config:-

Select Wireless
Check the WEP security box
Check the Enable wireless security box
Set Authentification Type to Shared
Select the First Key
Set Cipher to 128bit (It looks like your router will support 256 bit but only use this if your computers will also take 256 bit)
Paste your 26 character (longer for 256 bit) Hex string
Click the apply button.

Set up computers.

Speed Test for Broadband:

I have been upgraded to 2Mb broadband (maybe!). When I use my usual speed test site (http://myspeed.visualware.com) it tells me that I have only a download speed of 1.25Mb (tested at various different times).
I queried this with my supplier BTYahoo and they pointed me to their speed test which downloads specified size files. As an example, I can download a 10Mb file is approx 45/50 seconds which I reckon is about right for 2Mb.

Is there another site that tests speed of connection. I never doubted the visualware site before when I had 1Mb

Finally managed to security enable my router thanks in part to the postings here (and thanks Iain for your telephone offer - rang, answering m/c and you don't have a money am e mail link). Turns out the router needs restart on change of settings - just clicking "apply" is not enough. Why can't the manuals make this clear - gurrr.
