THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

sticky - i've said it lots of times, but i'll say it again ..... it doesn't matter (too) much what methodology or formula is used, so long as it is not forever being tinkered with ..... however, once a formula has been in place for at least a year, a fair trend is apparent, even if you don't like the result shown

if the system you are now suggestingwas to be used, i'm perfectly sure that it would have just as many shortcomings as the current one ..... which i think has been in place now for a good number of years -ie certainly during the previous regime

There is very little point in using logic in explanations to gf, especially when you have made the point numerous times.

goldfinger - 20 Jan 2014 15:12 - 35623 of 81564

RUBBISH.

Haystack - 20 Jan 2014 15:16 - 35624 of 81564

For once his post is a completely accurate description of itself.

goldfinger - 20 Jan 2014 15:21 - 35625 of 81564

Explain the relationship between part time workers (but wish they were full full time)

AND

1.Food Banks (record levels)
2.Pay Day Loans (record levels)
3.Savings accounts at lowest level in history
4.Credit Card Debt at highest level ever
5.Charity Shops, increasing by the day
6.Red Cross having to feed poor families
7.Kids going to school not having had a breakfast
8.Tax credits and housing benefit at historic highs

cynic - 20 Jan 2014 15:25 - 35626 of 81564

sticky - if you are disputing what i have written, please do not go off at a tangent and tell me specifically why
your long list of things does not remotely destroy the argument i put forward

no system of counting (statistics) can ever be free of argument as to how those figures can or should be interpreted, as that very old saying points out about lies, damned lies and statistics

You can blather all day Hays (over age yuppy) but you cant change the stats above.

Fred1new - 20 Jan 2014 15:31 - 35631 of 81564

GF.

You are wasting time with Manuel.

Perhaps he see his role in life as an irritant.

The problem he has with this role, amongst others, he is less than effective.

Just treat him as a fish and tease him your bait.

Quite good fun, but due to his ageing processes he tends to be a little repetitive.

(Does he drool, as well?)

charity shops
lots of people from all walks of life have found charity shops to be an excellent source of quality for everything from books to cds to clothes

kids + no breakfast
nothing new there

feeding a family on a budget
supermarkets do not represent good value for many food products
most mothers (families) i am sorry to say, haven't a clue on how to make very nourishing meals from exceedingly cheap ingredients - eg lamb breast; ham hock; beef cheeks; chicken carcasses; pulses
supermarkets, except i suspect north of watford, do not sell the cheaper/cheapest cuts ..... a proper butcher (or market stall) almost certainly would especially if requested

Not bad, but should do better.

"Kids going to school not having had a breakfast" - I would take issue with the parents about that. There are far too many young parents, hardly out of nappies themselves, who don't have a clue how to bring up children and look after them properly.

Fred1new - 20 Jan 2014 15:45 - 35635 of 81564

Some parents even duck their responsibilities while they go skiing by sending their kids to boarding schools.

Probably the lucky ones to escape inept parenting!

Haystack - 20 Jan 2014 15:47 - 35636 of 81564

Charity shops increasing is due to the general contraction of retail. Charity pay nothing for their staff and the goods they sell. They pay a special low level of rates. They are a scourge on the high street and distort the market. They take empty shops and can afford the rent as their other outgoings are almost nil. This stops landlords from lowering rents to market levels. They should either ban them or make them pay full rates.

Haystack - 20 Jan 2014 15:49 - 35637 of 81564

The other items on the list are because we have been in a recession and Labour are to blame for it being so bad.

goldfinger - 20 Jan 2014 16:24 - 35638 of 81564

Strange that I thought their had been a world wide recession.

goldfinger - 20 Jan 2014 16:26 - 35639 of 81564

Not only that but the tories have increased debt in there 4 years in power far more than the 13 years labour were in power.

Haystack - 20 Jan 2014 16:31 - 35640 of 81564

The recession was worse in the UK because of Labour having spent all the cash.
