i confess that i am uncomfortable with the ukraine situation, but perhaps not for the obvious reason

In this case I don't see any string pulling except by Putin. The current problems started when the Ukraine president suddenly cancelled the expected signing of an EU deal after a visit to Putin in favour of a deal with Russia. Putin seemed to have used some leverage whether it was help in staying president for ever or a bribe. It became clear that he had become Putin's bitch.

As in this country there are probably a small number of individuals trying to manipulate or take advantage of the "political" situation for their own advantages.

It seemed fairly spontaneous quiet revolution against a corrupt ruling body.

Think back to the Carnation revolution and that erupted from the opposition of a small number of officers and then popularly supported by the public led to the downfall of a corrupt dictatorship.

That led to a form of "democracy".

However, my wife thinks slightly differently and is in contact with Ukrainians who suggest that the USA had some part in stimulating the downfall of Yanukovych.

I would think USA and West would have been supportive but not directly involved, but ask yourself, who are manipulating the tories or kipper parties for their own ends and from abroad?

Similar comments were made and suggested regarding the labour party during the 60s and 70s and some worn out commentators still make similar remarks.

But, I think it will settle down with the borders defined by Putin and his thugs.

I hope nobody wants bloodshed to prove a point for the dead!

Are you referring to SBs of similar.

In this market were you leaving the Trades with wider stop losses, or running blind.

I must admit I don't like the market at the moment and only slightly exposed in SBs.

(Think it will recover over next few days to a week.)

I have pretty wide Stop losses than usual.

Just interested in how you are playing it.

There is an Ukrainian proverb that says : a pessimist is an informed optimist !.

The Americans have long history of overthowing left wing goverments , look at what it did in Latin America surporting right wing Dictatorships [ worst case was Chile's Maxist goverment]

Fred, just playing market as usual but with far fewer positions and ones I do open now at a 20% reduction in capital to normal.

Using mainly SBs and dont use Stop loses other than trailers when in a fair profit. Too many spikes these days.

I use the 2 - 2 system well a hybrid where firstly I look to double my inital loss that I would take so if I was prepared to lose say 5 grand on a position my profit would have to be 10 grand anything above that I use a stop loss and let it run.

And secondly Im prepared to lose only 2% of my entire shares portfolio on any one position except in my case its .75% and Im out.

My set up is different though and here Im prepared to buy and note the spread plus 2% (2% of what Im prepared to lose), if this is breached Im out of the position. I doesnt happen much and I dont use a stop other than a mental one written on a note pad.

This is the system that I used to coach and it cant be bad as out of 56....49 at the last count were still full time traders.

I did have a bad one though on the last one I coached about 18 months ago, where a chap got head strung despite all the warnings I kept giving and he went on to start off very well but started over trading and in the end had given up his full time job had taken on a second mortgage and just went mad straight on to forex without any coaching and lost every penny including his house.

His 2 brothers ended up pulling him out of the local canal barely alive. His wife took him back but it was a rather scarey episode since then I havent taken any more people on, instead Ive given a lot of my time to a online charity advising benefit claimants on their legal rights and their overall claims.

yes very interesting goldie, one question , if SBs were taxed the same as CFD which would be the cheapest ?

Years ago i used traded options , one way i tried was using stock i held to lend out to option traders [ can't remember what it was called ] and if the price of my share's stayed about the same price then i kept the option money on them ..... think that is how it worked.

Alders pluses and minuses for both its not so quite clear cut as you put it.

I have in my files somewhere a good article.

oh dear, Labour have fielded a political pygmy on QT tonight.

So far he's refused to confirm if he will rebel over HS2, resorted to 'chip on t'shoulder' class name calling (gold finger will have been pounding the table with glee at this juncture) and suggesting that the we should all boycott the World Cup in 2018 as appropriate retaliation for invading another sovereign country (Scotland of course won't have to worry about boycotting anything as they don't really have a football team).
