Walsall-based Highgate Brewery has been bought from Aston Manor in a multi-million pound deal with Global Star, a Smethwick-based pub company.

'The Old Joint Stock' was yesterdays Bar Review in the Birmingham Mail. The Minus points highlighted for it were 'Poor salad - and over 18s only, so families aren't even welcome at weekend lunchtimes'.

And on the 'pie theme' then it was mentioned that the 'pies could have been a touch more substantial'. Personally, I think that's a bit of an understatement as when I had a pie there earlier this week then it was a struggle to find much content under the large crust. Food service waitress was also having a bad mood day..... seemed to be practising for the shot put with the delivery of meals to tables...!!

On the Birmingham Mail's revue the Plus point mentioned was that it 'is a stunning building right next to Birmingham's most gorgeous square'.

Golden oldies' night of nostalgia.

Survivor 87, didn't know Highgate Brewery were in trouble. Food usualy only average at these medium size chains (Fullers) although their Ale I quit like.

Fred, Yes that time is fine by me.

Are, Joan Baez a name from the past but never seen here live.

Joan Baez with my eyesight looked as beautiful as ever. Her voice and choice of songs still pull the strings. Memories of the good times of the Hippy period and flower power, for those who survived them.

Survivor, look forward to meeting again. Ask at the porters or bar to direct you to Birmingham Pie and Pint.

Hope all got home.

Although the evening was a repeat picked up a few points.

Had a look at TSCO last night and this am. and bought a few S/bets. Chart looks promising and usual range of movement is relatively tight.

Bit slow for portfolios but on margin worth while.


Stan and Survivor, noticed that Birmingham Jazz Festival starts 23rd of July. Don't know whether you like Jazz, and fancy a pint and chat at the Brindley Arms before the floor show? Haven't been to one for some years, but enjoyed it when I did.

No problems getting home.

Lots of basics covered last night which I do think is important to revisit.

I'm not a great Jazz fan but under normal times I would have been keen to come, but I have lots on at the moment as you know Fred. Will certainly re think nearer the date though.

Home OK. At least there was no hardsell at the seminar. Just the last slide as the 'reason' for holding it and the special offer available if you sign up same night..... Doesn't seem to have been any follow-up phone calls from CMC... (unlike the hardsell after other seminars in Brum from Traders Uni and WinInvest).

The Birmingham Jazz Featival (as sponsored by Tesco) is on at the moment. It's 6th to 15th July - so this coming Sunday is last day.... website is at

The event seemed to suffer from a change of organiser last year as it was a bit uncoordinated. But this year seems to be back to be being fairly well organised.

Some acts were at Barton Arms - pity about the parking there - but had an excellent meal there yesterday aided by a few pints of .....
