How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

Hi Bak

House is getting there slowly - still stacks to do but it is liveable - we have a bedroom, my study a bathroom and a kitchen - the rest is all on catch up.

First day back at the screen today though may be the only one this week - cant believe im trading weather!!!!

Hows tricks with you? I think John is back Friday so we must sort out another night out

PS did murray win last night?

bakko - 31 Aug 2005 15:17 - 4303 of 10502

Steve,

Nice to know that your house is going well.

Things are OK this end. Betfair trading has been a bit slow recently - not finding decent opportunities or lost my edge? Wandering into spread betting footsie and dow over the summer with usual ups and downs.

As soon as John returns we'll grab a night out together.

Murray did win last night over 5 sets. Didnt see it but it was an epic match on one of the grandstand courts. Apparently, he even overcame injury and sickness on court!

Bak

i fell asleep when it went 2 sets all - doh!!!! at least i had closed all my positions out (i laid murray at 1.26 when he won the first set but closed out too early when he was broken in the second set - too distracted by the game of poker i was in lol)

bakko - 31 Aug 2005 15:34 - 4305 of 10502

Wasn't on the Murray game but laid the Toothless Tiger earlier in the day which paid off.

You'll have to talk to me about poker when we meet up as interested in having a go.

Northolt hit 32C at 2pm according to met site - still 2.5C short of required -
Heathrow flat at 31C - nowhere else higher than 30C. Have taken most of my risk out at 1.03

Fundamentalist - 31 Aug 2005 15:47 - 4308 of 10502

compoundup - 31 Aug 2005 17:12 - 4312 of 10502

Back online again after the electrician asked me to call a halt for a couple of hours messing about with the mains connections.

Can't work properly with these distractions so a bit of fun and easy money has been an enjoyable alternative to serious trading today. Thanks Scrip for pointing out the weather market.

By the way even now there is still some free money on the table if anyone has any appetite left

Scripophilist - 31 Aug 2005 20:42 - 4313 of 10502

Big thunderstorms over here tonight.

compoundup - 01 Sep 2005 13:41 - 4314 of 10502

Tiresome that Betfair haven't settled the weather market. I see from the forum BB that the thinking may be that confirmation of the actual maximum temperature may take a day or two - not that one should rely on the BB for such information of course.

WOODIE - 02 Sep 2005 11:19 - 4315 of 10502

what was the winning temp? also any tennis experts what chance murrey later on today

bakko - 02 Sep 2005 12:34 - 4316 of 10502

Woodie,

Murray is up against the Frenchman Clement later. Personally, its tough to call and I would wait to see how the match pans out before jumping in. Betfair has it at evens.
Clement isn't playing too well this year and is currently ranked 75 on the ATP listings. You can check out is full profile, activity and other stats at:

Clement's profile

Murray, on the other hand, has every incentive to win as he'll break into the top 100. He certainly has the crowd on his side as they've really taken to his attitude and fighting spirit. His biggest fan is McEnroe! He also had a very tough 5 setter the other day.

Scripophilist - 02 Sep 2005 12:51 - 4317 of 10502

Winning temp was <=94f

Chepstow abandoned after second fall in a week

RACING at Chepstow was abandoned on Friday after jockey Pat Dobbs was involved in a nasty fall from Roll The Dice in the opening "Brightwells" The Bloodstock Auctioneers Maiden Auction Stakes.

Dobbs was unseated from Richard Hannon's juvenile four and a half furlongs out in the one-mile contest and has been taken to the Royal Gwent Hospital in Newport, where he is conscious and lucid.

"Pat is OK but he has hurt his back, although he is talking," said Richard Hannon Junior.

Roll TheDice suffered a broken back after the incident and had to be put down.

The following race, the westcountryracing.com Affordable Racing Syndicates Claiming Stakes, was delayed as the stewards held an inspection and an inquiry with jockeys and trainers, after which the decision was taken to abandon the remainder of the card.

It is the second time a jockey has suffered a fall in the last five days at Chepstow after Sam Hitchcott sustained fractured ribs aboard Tetcott on Bank Holiday Monday in a similar position on the course.
